The other day, I was putting something together with a hex key and thought maybe I should invest in a set of good hex sockets. I got the 7-piece GEARWRENCH 1/2″ DRIVE SAE HEX BIT SOCKET SET. Okay, I bought the 12-piece 3/8″ set too, but that’s another review,These hex sockets are monsters, 5/16″ to 3/4″ hex, chromed and sturdy. You can easily read the socket size without your bifocals. The set comes with a mounting strip with ball bearing retention pegs.Get yourself one of these.

This 1/2″ Drive Hex Bit Socket Set contains 7 pieces: 5/16″, 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″, 9/16″, 5/8″ and 3/4″ (each piece has the size clearly stamped on it). The set is a heavy, well-made socket set with a life-time warranty. I have no doubt they’ll get the job done! The set also includes an enclosed case with a slide rail for easy storage, which can also be mounted on a wall or fit in a tool box drawer. Very nice!

For the person looking for a set of larger hex drive sockets, this set is a must. The hex drives range from 7/16″ hex to 3/4″ hex and are all a 3/8″ drive. The sockets are chrome plated for rust resistance and the hex drives are hardened steel for strength. The set comes with an organizer/storage case that can mount on the wall or fit in the drawer of your tool box. Great set to have in your tool box if you use larger hex drives.

Well-made set will last a lifetime, but sized too large for my needs.I admit I ordered this set by mistake not realizing how large it was. The set ranges from 5/16 to 3/4 in hex keys which are bigger than most socket heads on your car, motorcycle, or bicycle. That said it they are well constructed with a nice chrome finish and come with a handy ball detent retaining rack for easy on/off. You can hear the good quality heat treating when you clack the sockets together, as they sound like marbles which typically is a good sign of proper case hardening. These bits should last a lifetime and be passed to your kids. One knock on the set is the markings are rather small and difficult to quickly read. I like when a socket has large contrasting laser markings which make it easier to find the socket you need. Price wise it seems in line with the competitors. They are constructed in Taiwan. If you need a large format set this will get it done. About my rating:5 stars – Exceeds all expectations. Better than the competition in all aspects, design, cost, operation, and support (A+). 4 stars – Nicely done. Better than the competition and solves the problem. (B)3 stars – Works as expected. Has some shortcomings but gets the job done. Might be short in design, cost, longevity, or support. (C).2 stars – Falls short of expectations and needs improvement. Pass and look elsewhere. (D)1 star – Fails miserably. Does not get the job done, might even make things worse. Someone at the company should be fired. (F)

Good quality, though I wish it included larger bits, say up to 23 mm.

This is an excellent set to have in your toolbox. It has the most popular SAE sizes that would be used with a 1/2″ drive. The sizes are clearly engraved on each socket. The chrome finish is great, making cleanup quick and easy. They look good too. The pieces are well made and the fit is perfect. All are held on a mountable ball bearing retention strip., that both hold them securely and make them easy to remove too. They have a lifetime warranty, if that is ever needed. They fit every fastener I’ve tried them on perfectly.

FANTASTIC HEX BIT SOCKET SET! GearWrench again has produced a quality socket set that will get the job done. The socket hex tips are strong and durable for those larger then usual jobs. What’s also impressive is that GearWrench included a well built slide rail for easy storage. Its definitely not a cheap plastic storage slide either. Its like a little bonus that comes with the set.

Quality large hex socket set is a good addition to the tool chest for those larger-than-normal jobs. This 1/2″ drive set comes with seven sizes measuring 5/16″, 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″, 9/16″, 5/8″, 3/4″, so larger than you’ll likely see in a typical car. The pieces are well made and feel substantive with clear markings and a tight fit. The storage rail it comes with is also high-quality and useful. Each piece clips into a ball-bearing loaded 1/2″ peg and the rail can be easily mounted to a peg board. If you’re looking for a hex socket set of this size, this is a good option and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. They seem built-for-use and should hold up well to wear.

RE: GearWrench – 1/2 in. Drive Hex Bit Socket Set (7-Piece)A great set to add to the tool chest. 1/2-inch drive for durability. The seven sizes include 5/16″, 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″, 9/16″, 5/8″ and 3/4″. The size is stamped large on the socket for easy reading, especially handy for those of us with old eyes. Comes with a handy tray for keeping them together and organized. This set has a manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty too.

Really nice and sturdy set of hex bit sockets. The chrome seams very well done and the finish is really nice, I don’t see any bubbling or pits like you might with a cheaper set. The hex part is very secure in the chrome socket and seams to be made of a high carbon steel so it is very hard. The holder works great, it is easy to get the sockets off that you need but still holds them securly enought.
