GearWrench 1/2 in. Drive SAE Socket Set (19-Piece) – For a reasonably priced socket set, I appreciate the quality and the feel. All of the pieces are heavy duty ½” drive nicely machined chrome vanadium. The ratchet is beefy and long enough to get leverage on most bolts or nuts. With its 84 teeth the ratchet turns very smoothly and keeps working even in the tightest spots. The sockets are all 6 point with the size clearly stamped into each one. I really like that the sockets don’t stop at the 1-inch size, but includes 1-1/16”, 1-1/8”, 1-3/16” and 1-1/4”. Not that I use the large sockets a lot, but occasionally I need them. The set includes a 15” breaker handle, a 5” extension, a universal joint and is packed in a nice case.

This a 1/2 ” socket set with a 1/2″ ratchet wrench; a 5″ extension; a 3″ universal adapter; and a 14″ break-over handle. The sockets are 6 point. The inside of the sockets are rounded so that the forces on a bolt are transferred a small distance away from the bolt point. This does not change the overall force on the bolt threads but helps prevent rounding of the bolt head points. The metal surfaces are nicely polished so the tools should be able to be easily cleaned. The size labels on the sockets are not highlighted but are easy to read. To test the strength of the tools, I felt that my best test would be the lug nuts on my car. The lug nuts are supposed to be tightened to about 100 ft. lbs but mine are typically tighter due to my dealer not understanding how to use a Torque wrench. They are much tighter than desired. The 10″ ratchet wrench was just barely made the bolt move with my about 150 pound force. I tried the 14″ brake-over handle and it was able to turn it with with less push. The set has a Lifetime guarantee which is nice. Nice tools.

The GEARWRENCH 19-piece ½ inch Drive SAE Socket Sets is a comprehensive set of 6-point ½ inch drive standard depth SAE sockets, including four very large sockets which range from 1 1/16 to 1 ¼, which are not normally found in most ½ inch socket sets. The set is equipped with a reversing ratchet handle which is contoured to provide excellent hand grip. The entire set is very sturdy. The size of each socket is clearly etched on front and back, enabling easy identification. The set is stored in a durable case in which each tool is form-fitted to a specific, well-marked size location. Each tool is very well made, very heavy duty, and strong.

This half-inch drive set is a winner for me because it includes several large-size sockets that are usually not included in a set at this price. Quality six-point sockets in sizes of one inch and larger are costly when purchased individually. This set includes 5 sockets size one inch and larger, with nice close increments of 1-1/16″, 1-1/8″, 1-13/16″, and 1-1/4″. GearWrench warranty is lifetime. Even the most costly hand tools break occasionally, sometimes from normal use. It is nice to know that broken tools in this set will be replaced. I have begun using this set and find it well made, having accurate-sized sockets. The ratchet works with my other sockets of various brands.The ratchet does not have a push-to-release feature found on some ratchets.

This socket set comes in a molded case. There is no handle on the case. The case closes securely with 2 clasps on the top. There are a total of 15 individual sockets (from 3/8” – 1.25”). It comes with a 15” flex drive handle so you can get some great leverage. There is also an extension bar and a universal joint. The ratchet fits comfortably in the hand and on the backside of it, is clearly marked “on” and “off” so you don’t have to stop and think about which direction you’re going and the switch moves easily. Inside each of the sockets, there is a divot on all 4 sides so they lock onto the ratchet without fiddling. I don’t need my reading glasses to see the size stamped on the sides of the sockets. And this observation is silly: they look pretty – I like the chrome finish.

Great set and would have been 5 stars if the circlip for the ratchet was fully seated before I used it for the first time. The internals fell out and I luckily found all the pieces to reassemble.
