I wish I had this set years ago. I don’t know how many times I could have used it. I like the comfortable ratcheting grips on both handles and the selection of different bits and sockets. But the biggest thing for me is the extensions. The variety of lengths and a flexible shaft make it easy to reach hard to get to places. The straight handle works well like a standard screwdriver and the t handle makes it easy to get some torque. The first thing I did when I got this set was to tighten some fittings on my 67 Mustang that I couldn’t get easily to previously.

Absolutely the best little tool box for me. The set includes SAE and metric sockets, T-bar and straight handle almost three feet of extensions and many all in a very nice plastic case.,hex bits for all types of small bolts, nuts and screws. Excellent set for all your small jobs. Very easy to carry with the handle on the tool box. Everything in the case works very well and has it’s own place in the tool box.

Quite some time ago I had known someone with a set like this and admired it, and thought it would be a good addition to my set of tools, so I ordered this one. I received this set in perfect condition. Upon opening the box and examining the set, I could already see that it’s a quality product, well-designed and well-made. Everything was as expected, no surprises. My reason for only giving it 4 stars needs a little explanation. I had also just received a corner bathroom cabinet that needed to be put together, and I decided to try this tool set out while assembling the cabinet. I also had a power tool with screwdriver bits and a manual screwdriver similar to this (it also had a handle that accepted a metal shaft into which you could insert different bits), but it did not ratchet, although other than this it was a good screwdriver. I decided to compare the 3 different tools while assembling the cabinet, using all 3 at different tools at various points in the assembly for similar tasks. At one point I needed to screw in some cam bolts. This required a good amount of effort and turning to sink the cam bolt down all the way into the pre-drilled hole, which was smaller than the cam bolt so that it would be a tight fit. While using the ratcheting screwdriver was superior to the non-ratcheting screwdriver, for a job like this, using the power tool was by far the quickest and easiest solution. I then had some actual screws to install into some pre-drilled holes, although these holes were about the size of the screw. The power tool was overkill for this – the screw went to the bottom and just kept turning in place. I then tried the ratcheting screwdriver and found that the hole wasn’t gripping the screw tight enough to allow the ratchet to have enough resistance to activate – turning the handle counterclockwise just rotated the screw counterclockwise. The ratcheting screwdriver can be set to ratchet clockwise, counterclockwise, or not to ratchet at all. I had to move the selector to the non-ratcheting setting to successfully install these screws. I also had a towel rack to put up on the bathroom wall. I had to drive a screw into a stud, and the power tool again turned out to be best here. I also had to use a hex wrench to turn a set screw. Again, the ratchet did not engage for this as the set screw turned pretty freely, so I had to select non-ratcheting mode again. I then encountered some small bolts that needed turning on the drain cover to our dishwasher. Again, the power tool was superior, although I had to pair it with a bit from the ratcheting screwdriver set to have the correct size socket to use.Basically, I had a difficult time finding a use or niche where this tool could really shine. It certainly would be the best choice in cases where you couldn’t fit a power tool or swing a wrench very far and where the screw or bolt that needed to be turned gave some resistance – it would win hands down. I’m also sure that if I find myself in such a situation, I’d be very happy to have purchased this tool set. I was just finding that, for a tool set that’s in a similar price range as some power tools, I was finding that there seemed to be relatively few scenarios where such a tool was the best one for the job. I kept asking myself, why would choose this when I could get a power screwdriver set for a similar price? The only answer I could come up with is that it’s great for niche uses where a power tool is overkill or won’t fit and in cases where you can’t swing a wrench. But most of the time it seems that either a power tool is better or that a non-ratcheting screwdriver that accepts bits is just as good or better as it can fit in even smaller spaces. This tool set is great for what it is and what it does. I just didn’t find it to be as useful as I initially expected that it might be, and that would probably have been true for any and all ratcheting screwdriver sets. If a ratcheting screwdriver set is what you need, this is a great one, look no further. The selection of bits is great – having the small 1/4″ socket bit saved me a ton of time on the dishwasher drain cover – otherwise I would have had to use a crescent wrench (ugh!). I just wasn’t finding myself in as many situations where this would be the best tool to use as I thought I might, so that probably has more to do with my expectations than with the product, and that’s where it loses a star for me. I would still recommend this set to anyone who needs one.

This ratcheting screwdriver system was advertised in the description, as giving you better capability in all types of assembly and fastening jobs. Looking at the assortment of bits, sockets and extensions listed it was an impressive collection and I thought I’d give it a try. When the set arrived, I started taking the pieces out of the case and looking at the types and sizes of screwdriver bits and sockets. Everything was well marked on the individual tool bits and grouped in complete sets which made it very handy, especially for bench work. The two screwdriver handles had a soft rubberized feel and an internal ratcheting mechanism to reduce the repositioning of the bits while assembling or disassembling something. The heft and feel of the screwdriver handles made the tool very comfortable in your hand and easy to use. One thing I must note is that this set isn’t one that you would typically hand-carry in a portable toolbox to a jobsite because of the weight and size of the set and the fact that the whole set is based on extensions and extended length. The shortest assembly of handle, extension and screwdriver bit is approximately nine inches long, meaning it has limited access in smaller assemblies. It would probably be better suited to hitch a ride along in a gang-box with the rest of your tools or permanently stationed on an assembly bench.

GearWrench Ratcheting GearDriver Screwdriver Set (56-Piece) – a Home Depot Seeds Program ReviewI have another GearWrench ratcheting screw driver (GearWrench 2 Position Ratcheting Screwdriver) that I keep in the “junk drawer” so that it’s accessible for all of the little jobs that come up in the house. This Ratcheting GearDriver Screwdriver Set is for all of the “real” tasks and goes far beyond just being a screwdriver! The set includes two handles – a straight and a t-handle – both of which have forward, reverse and locked ratcheting positions with 45 tooth action. The material is plastic with a “grippy” rubbery coating that really improve grip even with wet hands. There’s also some bit storage in the end of the straight handle. There are four shafts – two ten inch and two six inch – for attaching bits or sockets. One of the ten inch shafts accepts the fastening bits and is flexible. The other is rigid and has detents on both ends for attaching sockets. One of the six inch shafts is for fastening bits and the other for sockets. There is a pretty good selection of 30 fastening bits with slotted, phillips, hex and torx. These are standard 1/4” bits so you can use other bits you have on hand as well. I use square drive screws quite often and may put a few of those bits in the handle storage. There are also 20 1/4” drive sockets in metric (4mm – 13mm) and SAE (5/32” – 1/2”) included. All of these pieces would be quite a mess but for the clear-top carrying case they all come in. The pieces are held securely and are easily visible. Unfortunately the case doesn’t have any kind of carrying handle but, with the size being about the same as a book, the lack of handle is not a problem. The shafts lock into the handles securely by use of the detents in the shaft ends. The sockets lock equally secure on the opposite ends of the shafts fitted with detents. The shaft ends accepting bits also have a detent inside to hold the bit securely and they’re magnetic as well.I really hesitate to consider this GearWrench Ratcheting GearDriver Screwdriver Set just a screwdriver set since, with the sockets and shaft selections, it’s so much more. The handles feel good and provide a good grip. There’s a good selection of bits and if there aren’t enough any 1/4” bit will work as well. The socket selection is OK but the shafts accept any ¼” socket. This is a very complete set that comes in a good case that holds the pieces well. I’ve been very happy with my other GearWrench tools and I expect this set to satisfy me as well. Here’s the manufacturer’s site for more information:http://www.gearwrench.com/catalog/product/view/id/17748/

This review is for the GearWrench Ratcheting GearDriver Screwdriver Set (56-Piece). This Geardriver / Screwdriver set makes the perfect addition to any DIY tool collection. The set comes in a sturdy plastic molded case and all the pieces are securely held in their places, making it very easy to see and use all the different pieces. The driver handles are very well designed to fit comfortably in your hand. The handles function in two ways either ratcheting or non-ratcheting which provides for greater flexibility when using them. The straight handle has a removable cap so that you can store up to 32 bits right in the handle. Having the two different handle shapes (straight and T shaped) makes this set very versatile in almost any situation.

I bought this set about ten years ago while working as a mechanic. I wanted a modular screwdriver kit but not the cheap throw away kind. I took a chance because of the Gear Wrench warranty and I can honestly say this kit is the real deal. I have never used the warranty because it has never broken. Not even one of the bits. I used it day in and day out in the shop for 7 years with no problems. I no longer work on cars for a living and I have sold several of my specialty tools but I am certain that this set will be in my tool closet when I die. If you are a DIY’er this will be the last ratcheting screwdriver you will need.

This is an extremely ”complete” screwdriver and socket set, with every size or type of piece you could possibly need. I just made a ton of space in my tool chest by getting rid of multiple loose pieces that this one set replaces, The case it comes in makes it easy to contain all the pieces and find the part you need quickly. The pieces snap together with ease. Very durable and high quality. Love the ratcheting driver; so much easier than twisting and twisting till your hand hu.rts. Fits comfortably in your hand

The GearWrench 56 PC. Ratcheting Geardriver Screwdriver Set is a high quality set of ratcheting screwdrivers, sockets and bits that will get your work done quickly and efficiently. You get two ratcheting handles – a large diameter screwdriver-type and a T-handle. Both give you nice torque to loosen or tighten. You also get a nice assortment of SAE and metric sockets, and a comprehensive collection of bits. Lastly, there’s a collection of four extensions. The cool one I’m looking forward to using is the 10” flexible bit extension. That device allows work in hard to reach places. The only delta for me is a lack of shorter extensions. I own some in the 2-3” range that will work, but would be useful to be included in the set. The included case is heavy-duty with a clear front – a nice touch. I put the set to work immediately after receiving it. I had a table that needed to be put together, and included were a little hex wrench and a tiny open-ended wrench. Nope! I got my GearWrench set out and had that table put together in no time. This set is high quality and an excellent value. I highly recommend it!

I ordered the Gearwrench ratcheting screwdriver set because it is a SET. I have a couple of individual ratcheting drivers, one American made, one German, but they came as just tools, with a limited number of bits that fit into a standard 1/4″ hex shank. Anything else I may need is bought separately, and then becomes something else I have to keep track of. This set is different. It is in a box, with a transparent lid, so you can see what is missing. The box holds the components securely to boot. If you look at the pictures, it has both screwdriver-type and T-handle drivers, a hex-shank shaft, a flex shaft, two extension bars, plus an assortment of hex bits and both standard and metric 6-point sockets. The screwdriver and T-handle drivers DO NOT have the 1/4″ hex shank. They have a standard 1/4″ square recess that will fit the male end of 1/4″ extension bar. See the pictures. One bar, plus the flex shaft (another bonus, and very solidly built) also has the 1/4″ hex socket, so ordinary hex-drive bits will fit. The other two bars are just male-male extension bars, for use with the included 1/4″-drive 6-point sockets. Or any other tool that needs a 1/4″ square drive, like hex bits, Torx bits, tap sockets, etc. as well as other 1/4″-drive sockets. Or use a 1/4″ F- 3/8″ M adapter for bigger sockets, if needed. Overall, I like it. The ratcheting mechanisms are 45-tooth, but smooth, and the fit and finish of the pieces are what I have come to expect from Gearwrench. The best thing for me is having most everything I commonly use around the house and shop in a grab-and-go case. And if I need something oddball the kit doesn’t have, I still have all the miscellaneous bits I previously purchased, should the need arise. I just gotta find ’em.
