This quality set includes pliers and 6 bands. Set works by placing a band around the piston, covering the rings and hooking pliers into the band, then squeezing. With the band lightly around the piston, insert piston into cylinder and tap lightly with hammer handle to install. The Fine-tooth ratcheting lock allows you to compress bands in small increments. The great thing is the pliers can be used parallel or perpendicular to the cylinder block.

This set will fit pistons all the way from a lawn mower to a diesel engine. The pliers and the bands are made of high quality materials and could not be easier to use. It even has fine tooth ratcheting for precise compression and the long pliers allow work to be done either parallel or perpendicular to the cylinder block. The most difficult thing about this kit is getting the rings to fit neatly back into the case. Nice product!

This is a substantial Piston Ring Compressor Set, I like that that actual apparatus to compress the rings, has a locking mechanisim, will prove handy when orchestarting the introduction of the piston into the vintage harley Davidson cylinders. really handy. The structural integrity of this set is excellent, well made and thought out, no cosmectic oversights also. Nice set.In closing, made In Taiwan..

strong wide-range set of piston ring compressors that come with several interchangeable sleeves for different size pistons, all packed in a molded plastic case. They come with a black oxide finish that should hold oil well, and probably should be stored with a coating of oil.The smallest size works on my Mini Cooper S (2003, R53), so it likely fits many smaller cars, but definitely not small enough for small engine work.My kit included seven sleeves in these sizes:2 7/8 to 3 1/8 inch3 1/8 to 3 3/8 inch3 3/8 to 3 5/8 inch3 5/8 to 3 7/8 inch3 7/8 to 4 1/8 inch4 1/8 to 4 3/8 inch 4 3/8 to 4 5/8 inchIn millimeters:73 mm to 79 mm79 mm to 86 mm86 mm to 92 mm92 mm to 98 mm98 mm to 105 mm105 mm to 111 mm111 mm to 117mm

I just received my GearWrench 2-7/8 in. x 4-3/8 in. Piston Ring Compressor Set. This kit comes with 6 bands with a range of 2.875″ to 4.375″. The Fine-tooth ratcheting lock allows you to compress bands in small increments. This is a very nice upgrade to the ring compressor tool that I have been using for the last 35 years and looks like its a lot easier to use. This GearWrench Piston Ring Compressor Set looks like it made with some quality. The kit comes in a nice plastic carrying case so all the pieces can be stored. I will be rebuilding a AMC 360 in the near future. It looks like this kit will work perfectly for this project. The size of the piston will be somewhere between 4.08″ to 4.28″. I’m looking forward to using this new tool in the next 6 months.

So handy if you work on engines. Wide range of bore sizes (more than I will ever encounter) for almost any job. The ring bands easily attach to the pliers and the pliers have a catch so that once the tool has compressed the rings on the piston, you don’t have to keep squeezing the whole time. The amount of hand strength required was less than I thought it would be which was quite a relief. I found I could work faster with these than with the more old fashioned, one-size fits all type. The carrying case is also really nice so the pieces don’t get scattered and lost.

The more I look at and use this wrench the more I find favorable about it.Firstly, it has a plethora of ring clamps that will handle the ranges stated and even more. The two sets of nubs that engage the clamps will even give the tool more diversity for just about any and all sizes of pistons up to a maximum of 4 3/8 inches. (I believe if one is installing a piston that is less than 2 7/8 inches in diameter it could probably be done without the need for any tool.)Pictured is the locking wrench handle on a FIAT 1300 cc piston and what a convenience that is to be able to let go and use two hands to start the piston into the cylinder.

My husband uses these things on his race car. He says that the piston ring compressor is a special tool that is made for compressing the piston rings when a piston is re-installed. This is done by opening the piston ring compressor enough so that the piston will slide into the opening. Then the rings compress by tightening the tool so that it is snug around the piston. He said gear wrench brand is better than the big box brand.

A well designed, easy to use piston ring compressor set that accommodates a wide range of piston sizes from 2 7/8” (73mm) all the way to 4 5/8” (117mm). As such it is ideally suited to a range of engines from 250cc motorcycle engines all the way to 7-8 liter diesel engines. The set comes with 7 different compressor bands which are sized as follows: 2 7/8” (73mm) to 3 1/8” (79mm), 3 1/8” (79mm) to 3 3/8” (86mm), 3 3/8” (86mm) to 3 5/8” (92mm), 3 5/8” (92mm) to 3 7/8” (98mm), 3 7/8” (98mm) to 4 1/8” (105mm), 4 1/8” (105mm) to 4 3/8” (111mm) and 4 3/8” (111mm) to 4 5/8” (117mm).I regularly work on restoring a collection of classic motorcycles and cars as well as working on the 7.4 liter V8 engine in my boat and the diesel engine on my tractor. The smaller end of the bands is ideal for single cylinder 250cc motorcycles which have pistons of around 74mm, the 86-92mm band is ideal for my 2.65 liter V8 Cosworth DFX Indy car engine while the largest band can be used for large capacity engines like 7 or 8 liter diesels. Below 250cc you are probably better off getting a small engine ring compressor set.I really like the ratchet handle that comes with the set as you can slip the ring band over the rings and then compress it with the handle. There is a ratchet on the handle that is easy to release with one finger and allows the rings to be compressed in small increments which makes setting the compression pressure simple when you are tapping the pistons back into the block. You can also hold the pistons vertically or horizontally with the handle which makes working on ‘flat’ 4 or 6 cylinder engines much easier if the block isn’t on an engine stand. The surface of the bands is painted black which makes them easy to wipe clean after use and the set comes in a molded plastic storage case keeping them all together in one place when not in use.

This GearWrench 2 7/8 inch to 4 3/8 inch piston ring compressor set is a high quality tool that has 6 different bands to fit most automotive and smaller engines. Each band increases in size by a 1/4 inch. The ratchet handle can be used in two different angles which makes it easier to position. The handle has a fine tooth ratchet mechanism which allows you to tighten the bands around the piston to get a easier installation of the piston into the bore of the engine. I have two V8 engines to freshen up this winter and I look forward to using this tool instead of the old band style compressor I have used in the past. The GearWrench piston ring compressor comes in a molded case for easy storage and has a limited lifetime warranty.

I received my GearWrench brand piston ring compressor set; it comes in a plastic storage kit, which is convenient. These piston ring compressors comer in a reasonably complete set that will work with most light trucks and passenger cars. I like the fact that it comes with a fine-tooth set of locking pliers.I haven’t had a chance to use them yet but they are made better than my previous set made by a different manufacture. I look forward to trying them out. As with other GrearWrench tools, they have a lifetime guarantee. Overall this is a well-made complete set of piston ring installers.
