The Gear Wrench brand 1/4 in. Drive SAE/Metric Ratchet and Socket Set (22-Piece) tool sets are really beginning to impress me as far as reliability, durability and quality. I chose this 1/4″ set to go in my personal vehicle’s tool bag. I’m just “old school” and have always carried a variety of tools for any kind of road side emergency. I like the fact that it sits on it’s own little carrying rack-makes it easy to keep up with these small sockets. My product arrived undamaged and with NO missing sockets, extension or ratchet. Great product and will come in handy in the future. NEVER be without tools.

Very well built 1/4″ drive sockets in both Metric and SAE. What’s included:Set of Metric and SAE sockets (4mm to 13mm and 5/32″ to 1/2″)Quick release 1/4″ ratchet 1/4″ – 4″ Extension Molded socket and ratchet holderOne of the first things that I noticed is that the set is very well made. Everything has a very nice polished finish that feels good in your hands. The ratchets handle is made to be very comfortable, its round handle makes it easy to hold it in any position. The sockets are well made and they are 6 point so they engage fastener heads much better to help prevent rounding. Each metric socket has a ribbed section on the bottom where the SAE sockets are smooth, making ID easy and quick. The fit and finish is wonderful, this makes using them a joy. The ratchet has a quick release button on the back of the handle making changing sockets quick and effortless. The head on the ratchet is little big (see photo) but has a fine ratchet mechanism, making turning fasteners in tight spaces very easy. The set comes with a nice storage case to keep everything well organized.Overall, this is a quality set of tools. Highly recommend these for professional or weekend DYI.

The 1/4 IN. DRIVE SEA/METRIC RATCHET AND SOCKET SET (22-PIECE) is an Outstanding to any tool kit for the Homeowner and the professional alike. When you ate dealing with small nuts and bolts this 1/4 in drive set is just whats needed for those smaller sizes and hard to reach places. This comes with both SEA and Metric sizes. The ratchet is sized just right to grip while not overpowering the smaller sized projects that require lighter touch. I highly recommend this product.eyedaddy

The 1/4 In. Drive Ratchet and Socket Set is necessary for a well balanced tool box. The sockets are in SAE from 5/32″ to 1/2″ and Metric from 4 to 13! The small size is a blessing because not everyone has room for the big drives. The wrench and extension have lock-on, quick-release drives that prevents dropped sockets which can bring a job to a halt while getting the socket back!!! The set is chrome plated for lasting looks. I’m glad to have it in my tool box!!

The GearWrench 22 Piece 1/4 inch SAE/Metric Socket Set (Model #8800A) compares somewhat favorably with other similarly priced sets from other companies. Things that liked are the professional-style quick-release tear-drop ratchet, polished chrome finish and knurled shaft on the extension. Things I didn’t like are a wobble-head end on the extension, small hard to read markings on sockets, plastic reversing selector switch on ratchet and a poorly designed storage tray. The storage tray is only useful if it is laying on its back. When tilted up vertically the extension slides out and when turned upside down several sockets fell out. A blow-molded closeable storage box would have been much better. I was also worried by the plastic reversing switch on the ratchet and how it would hold up in the years to come. All of the sockets in this set are 6 point standard depth and are of good quality. But the stamped size markings are hard to see and there is no easy way to tell whether the sockets are SAE or Metric. This is a pretty good set that I would only recommend if you are willing to accept the minor drawbacks. For the $50 price of this set you can do better!

I got this socket set to add to the tools in my car in case of emergency. There are a few definite pluses and one big minus. The pluses are that the set has a decent range of sizes for smaller jobs. Also the ratchet has the lever on the back so I can tell whether it’s in a position to tighten or loosen without testing it. The ratchet also has a lock for the sockets so the socket won’t come off when using it. The pieces seem well made and sturdy. The one big minus is that the black plastic holder doesn’t hold the sockets and the extension rod very well. A minor jostling and five pieces came loose (see photo). For $50 I would think this should be the last issue but I’ll have to figure out a way to keep all the pieces in place. If I was going to keep this in a drawer, it would be fine but it would never work in a tool bag.

The GearWrench 1/4 inch Drive SAE/Metric ratchet and socket set is well made and of quality material. It comes on a plastic holder which holds each socket pretty firmly in place. The ratchet and the extension are also held firmly in place with clamps. Each socket is easily read…a big plus when you’re my age. There is a quick release button on the ratchet quickly gets the sockets off. I think this would be great for small assembly projects or as a traveling toolkit. I would consider this a good handyman tool set rather than for a mechanic as the maximum size socket is 1/2 inch.

Super nice chrome finish on all of the sockets, extension, and rachet in this set. I didn’t see any imperfections or bubbles in the finish which should last for a long time! The ratchet has around 40-45 teeth which makes it perfect for tight spaces since you will be able to move a couple teeth without rotating the ratchet too much. I liked that the metric and SAE have different textures on them so you can easily sort them and tell which is which! The plastic holder is okay, it seems to have been designed to be packaging as well as a permanant use item, but I doubt that it will last long. I didn’t buy the set for the packaging though!

Fantastic 1/4″ drive ratchet and socket set. Every GearWrench product I have owned has been good quality but the superb functionality of their tools is where they shine. The ratchet has good, narrow profile that allows for good access to awkwardly placed fasteners. The ratchet mechanism needs very little movement to ratchet and took very little resistance from the fastener to engage the ratcheting action.

This Gearwrench 1/4” drive set is just what I needed. Last summer I was working on a project and could not find one single complete sets of sockets. I ordered 4 sets plus an extra set of ratchets just so this will not happen to me again. It comes in an ok case but they will fall out if you flip them over. It was quite the workout to get all the security tags off.
