The GearWrench 13 pc. SAE REVERSIBLE COMBINATION RATCHETING WRENCH SET had my attention and sadly-to-say, kinda disappointed me. Quality was an issue and the presentation inside the shrink wrap packaging wasn’t appealing. However, despite the flaws I laid out in the attached video, the wrenches did perform just fine. Matter of fact, the ratcheting mechanism on all wrenches were very smooth. I really like GearWrench products but, this one was a bummer!

GEARWRENCH SAE Reversible Combination Ratcheting Wrench Set (13-Piece)13 highly polished chrome, pro grade, SAE wrenches at a reasonable price. The set includes 5/16”, 11/32” 3/8”, 7/16”,1/2”, 9/16”, 5/8”, 11/16”, 3/4”, 13/16”, 7/8”, 15/16” and 1” reversible combination reversible ratcheting wrenches. You may not always have room to use a reversible wrench in tight areas, but when you can, it makes the work so much easier. With a 15 degree offset on the ratcheting end there’s less chance of busting your knuckles (compared to the flat style wrenches) and with 72 teeth they need only around 5 degrees of movement per ratcheting stroke. The best part is the reversing lever which is easy to reach and no more flipping that flat wrench over to activate reverse. Good length for reaching farther in for that bolt and they have a solid weight and feel so you don’t drop them. All wrenches are all well marked on both sides for easy identification. If you want the convenience of reversible ratchet style wrench, I don’t think you can go wrong with these. They feel good in the hand, comfortable to use and will store in your tool box drawer or hang on your shop wall in their convent heavy rubber holder. While I haven’t used all of the sizes yet, I did test every wrench for proper ratcheting (right and left direction) and all worked smoothly as expected. This is a great addition to my tool set. I have always wanted these wrenches, the box end ratchets the same way a socket wrench works. I now have both SAE and Metric sets. I gave my old craftsman wrench sets to my son since I no longer need them and he has none. This set has all standard sizes so you will bet set to tackle any project that you face. These are constructed with very high quality steel an I expect them to last for my lifetime. It is nice to have both SAE and Metric. Very pleased.

The first thing I noticed about these wrenches are the weight. These are not your inexpensive bargain store wrenches and are made of heavy iron or steel with a chrome finish. The ratchet end only needs 5 degrees clearance to be able to loosen or tighten the nut or bolt you are working on. The reversing lever is on the upper side when the ratchet is in use and can easily switch from tighten to loosen with a flick of the switch. There is a 15 degree offset on the ratchet head to give you more knuckle room if you are using them in a tight place, and the box end has an off-corner design. If you have ever rounded off heads of bolts with other wrenches, you will really appreciate this feature. The best thing about this set is that it has a lifetime guarantee. I have only needed to use one so far and I really like the feel of the wrench as well as how it functions. My next purchase will be the same set in Metric.

Im giving them the benefit of the doubt that they will work when it comes time to use them. Ordered the 13pc SAE and the 16pc metric set to replace my gearwrench 8pc SAE and 8pc metric sets that ive use and absolutely loved for about 15yrs. The new sets were on sale and arrived breakin out of their packages, dirty, scuffed and nicked which i will attribute to the shipping. My old sets were made in taiwan and actually had a slight rim on the closed ratchet end that would keep it on the fastener. The new sets are from china and do not have this feature. The 15 degree offset on the ratchet end is inconsistent and almost nullified altogether on a couple wrenches in each set. These few wrenches have a significant bend in the middle and on one, towards the open end.

This review is for GEARWRENCH, 13-piece SAE reversible ratcheting wrench set, Apex Tool Group Product 9509N. This set has a lifetime warranty. The set looks great,having bright polished chrome finish. The set comes packaged in a plastic holder that is handy for storage by hanging on a wall or for placing in a tool drawer, however, I expect that the tools will far outlast the plastic holder.Each wrench has a ratcheting box end that is offset at 15 degrees that handy to provide clearance for avoiding skinned knuckles. The open ends for these wrenches are not offset. The ratchets are reversible so that changing the direction does not require removing the wrench from the fastener. The reversing levers are compact and shift smoothly and easily. The ratchets have catches each 5 degrees for the 3/8″ to 1″ sizes and each 6 degrees for the 5/16 ” and 11/32″ sizes. This feature allows one to work in tight spaces where there are obstructions in the way of other than limited wrench handle rotation. The packaging indicates that the ratchets are understandably not intended for freeing frozen fasteners. I have used most of the wrenches in this set for automotive and lawn equipment repairs over a period approaching a month. I used one of them for tightening turn buckles and nuts on eye bolts and cable clamps while cabling trees, finding the wrench particularly handy for that purpose because it facilitated one-handed use while high off the ground on a ladder. This is a high quality tool set that meets and exceeds my needs as a busy neighborhood handyman.

This set of wrenches is awesome. The ratcheting action is awesome, I dont know why I waited this long to get ratcheting wrenches. This set has just about every size you could ever need, all kept together in a rugged plastic carrier. You can hang the plastic carrier on a couple of screws over your workbench and then grab them for a job on the go. You can see how the offset head lifts of the wrench handle off the working surface giving your knuckles much needed clearance. The other main feature I liked is that you dont have to rotate the handle much to get to the next tooth in the ratchet mechanism, this allows to to tighten or loosen your nut/bolt in really tight places.

GearWrench is making a name for themselves with quality tools incorporating innovative design and these SAE open and ratcheted boxed end wrenches are a great addition to my toolbox. The boxed end has a 12-point ratcheted “socket” that can be reversed. The narrow ratchet action allows working in tight spaces. My need was to tighten a nut that a traditional ratchet and socket could not fit. The ratcheted boxed end of the GearWrench wrench make quick work of tightening that nut. The set is a good heavy quality chrome and is my new favorite wrench set.

What a nice addition to my workbench. I thought that my open end/box end wrenches were enough but they are not. With this set there is no need to get out a socket set to speed things up. Now I can use the open end to break a connection and the ratchet side to quickly remove the nut or vice versa. This 13pc set contains every wrench I ever need (except 1/4″- probably too small for ratchet) The 4 biggest wrenches are fully polished while the others are not. (personal preference). I read online that some wrenches did not work after purchase and I did have a broken 5/8ths. Other than that this is a complete set of wrenches that offer a lifetime warranty, at a great price and would be an excellent addition to anyone’s toolbox. I think you owe it to yourself to visit Home Depot and buy the whole set soon. You won’t regret it.
