I’m a homeowner / DIY’er and got a chance to check out the General International MS3005 model compound miter saw. My old saw wasn’t a compound design and could barely manage to cut a 2×4 at 90 degrees. The MS3005 specs are posted on the Home Depot website – and it absolutely has no problem cutting 2×4’s. I like the sliding feature very, very much indeed. The action on the blade is smooth and predictable. The saw comes with a “bonus” miter saw table. While the saw comes mostly assembled, the table comes in a few more parts. From unboxing to fully assembled took me an hour. Assembly tools included a small hammer, Channellock pliers , 10mm and a 13mm deep well sockets (3/8” drive). The box with the table bits and pieces didn’t include assembly instructions and this held things up. I had to use the pictures on the box for guidance. The saw manual was in the box with the saw, but the “hold down clamp retainer” fastener was missing. I triple checked both boxes, but the retainer was missing. I substituted a 12×24 machine screw temporarily. The pins that retain the folding legs were quite difficult to push in to allow the legs to deploy – good for holding them in position once deployed, but a bit of aggravation when setting up the table. (I used the hammer to tap the retainers into submission. YMMV.). One leg has an adjustable foot (see photo below) and it worked quite well on stabilizing the table on my basement workshop concrete floor.Construction of saw and table is nearly all metal (some fasteners have plastic knobs to make it easier to adjust them. Fit and finish is good – no bad threads or poorly painted pieces. All of the pieces bolted together without having to force anything into position; a bit of a pleasant surprise at this price range. The user manual notes that the markings on the saw are for “rough carpentry”; if you’re more particular about the accuracy of the cuts you’ll want to use scrap wood and get everything properly adjusted. There’s a small bag for collecting saw dust, but a vacuum is really more effective for anything but the smallest cuts. Eye and ear protection are recommended, of course. The hex key for blade removal/installation is included. I may be overlooking it, but I don’t see any hole or retaining clip for keeping the key attached to the saw or the table. Batteries for the laser are included. On the plus side, this new saw runs the same size blades as my table saw. The unit comes with a 90-day return guarantee from Home Depot and a 2-year warranty from the manufacturer.HTHRegards,Jim

I just received the General International 10” sliding miter saw and miter saw stand and so far with very limited use I am very impressed. This saw has dual slide rails allowing for wider stock cuts than a single use chop saw will allow, but with the slides locked into a stationary position the GI miter saw can be used as a chop saw. The versatility and the ergonomic positioning when using the miter saw stand really makes working with this equipment very comfortable. I absolutely love the miter saw stand. It is easy to assemble and store when you are done. The saw once affixed to the mounts that attach the saw to the stand makes it very simple to take your saw on and off the miter saw stand. The stand has adjustable height rollers at each end to allow for long pieces of stock to be positioned and cut by one person. The saw itself is an all-purpose compound sliding miter saw that easily adjusts to 90 degrees, 45 degrees , and 22.5 degrees cuts and anything in between with the flip of a lever. I made left and right 45 degree cuts and took a couple of pictures to show that the saw was dead on right out of the box. Like I said early on, I am very impressed with this saw at the price point that it is offered at. I fully anticipate getting a ton of around the house type projects completed with the help of this tool. It seems to be fairly well made, but I really don’t know how long it would last under the rigorous usage of daily contractor use. I am rating this saw and stand at a very solid 4 stars. See my pictures below for the accuracy of cuts and the general look of the equipment.

I bought this for my dad! He loves it and uses it all the time to build stuff. He said it was worth the price paid! He loves the 360 degree swivel!

General Model #MS3005 is designed for the occasional use by a homeowner, not the contractor. The overall weight of the saw is light while the Miter Saw stand MS#3102 is very heavy! The “D” handle on the saw was cracked but still usable. There were no “AAA” batteries for the laser device and the laser is constantly “on” whereas other models has the laser come “on” when the trigger is pulled. The laser was not an accurate line and needs to be adjusted. The “Functional Description” section was printed wrong as this saw already came set up. The table extension rods did not touch the wood as they were short by an 1/8″. I could not find a rear stabilizer hold nor rod with this saw which was mentioned in the instructions. The saw dust bag did not work correctly and the saw dust was all over the machine and floor. There was no motor/blade brake and you had to wait for the saw to naturally stop before removing the wood. There was no mention of metric tools need to assemble and adjust the saw and stand. Letter “F”, 4 machine screws are way too long and stand up in the way at the front and back of the saw to hold it to the miter saw stand. The saw and stand are made in China.

I was able to put my new saw together and check it out and I’m impressed overall for the price range. It has a lot of bells and whistles between the stand and the saw itself, including a laser guide, fully adjustable rollers, etc. i have not been able to use it a ton and have not gone through the instructions on calibrating it just yet but it cuts pretty true on straight and angle cuts. The action is smooth with the right amount of resistance and smooth motion on the slide. The wheels are solid rubber and will take some abuse, and there is one adjustable leg so that you can get your setup sturdy on the job site. Some nit picky things: The legs don’t always lock in place which is irritating at times. And, the laser is not overly bright. I turned it on during a cloudy, gray day I can hardly see it. And I had brand new batteries in it since the batteries that came with the saw didn’t work at all. The dust bag is not high quality and super small. For a homeowner with the occasional need for a saw like this, I’d saw it’s perfect. Of course there are other options out there for better saws if you want to blow over a thousand dollars. This brand and product doesn’t try to be something it’s not – it’s an economy line that I think provides a lot of value with a nice set of features.

15 Amp 10 in. Sliding Miter Saw with Bonus Heavy-Duty Miter Saw Stand is made by General International. I definitely prefer my portable Ryobi, but this saw is decent. I purchased it mainly for the miter saw stand, which I do like. The stand folds up and can be moved easily and it has universal mounting adapters to fit other saws. The saw itself does what a miter saw should by making bevel and precision cuts. The laser alignment is nice to have.

Cuts good and true straight out of the box. This miter saw is ideal for my needs in that it will be required to do batch jobs handful of times each year. It is reasonably well made and assembly of the stand and mating the saw to the stand was all straightforward. The laser is a handy alignment tool. The short video shows how it cuts and how easy it is to adjust for the next cut. Both the saw and the stand have limited two year warranties.

OK for home use and some job work. This is definitely not in the same league as my old Hitachi miter saw, but on the other hand it is much cheaper, so I would recommend it if you just need a setup for occasional use especially if accuracy is not too important.Out of the box the saw needed a little assembly which the minimal instructions walk you through:- attach roller supports to the stand- attach wheels to stand- attach saw brackets to stand (one of mine would not go on and required some adjustment)- attach saw to saw brackets- attach side supports to the sawYou will need to fine tune it a bit before you can make somewhat accurate cuts – adjust fence, miter indicator.PROS- much cheaper than other sliding miter saw + stand setups- laser guide- good enough for occasional use/home DIYerCONS- saw is not as well made and does not seem as durable as DeWalt, Makita, etc or even Ryobi- minimal instructions give little guidance on adjustments for accurate cuts- seems like blade is not exactly inline with the slide, making for a rough cut (can see no way to adjust the blade angle relative to the slide)- does not feel accurate and consistent enough for finish work- little things that would be easy to fix, like: the angle indicators are the same color as the tool (red) making them harder to read, leg latch hard to release, bolts to secure saw to brackets too long- after a lot of adjustment the laser guide was in the right spot, but seems to shift slighty as the saw is used

This is a well built Miter saw stand, The use of a steel frame, as well as strong legs and crossbars .The legs can be locked into place, there is also a height adjustment ,the mounting adaptor will fit most saws, with a lever for easy release of the saw. There are extensions that can be adjusted for height, including rollers and cutting stops, After use can be folded and rolled away for future use. A really great Stand.
