The General Tools Professional Tap Wrench Set is the highest quality tap set that I have personally used. From the smooth, precise action of the jaws to the knurling for ease of grip to the overall finish, this tool set speaks of quality. In addition to the quality of the individual tap wrenches, the fact that they are combined in one case with the precise measuring guide is not only convenient, it also provides a money saving option to purchasing them separately. General Tools has knocked it out of the park for me with this set and, as a former tool and die maker, I highly recommend this set to any mechanic, machinist or maintenance professional.

When looking at this, realize that this set does not come with any taps. It is just the wrench set for using taps that you already have, or plan on acquiring. Very easy to use, the collet works, and it fits the taps well. The threaded collar tightens effortlessly to hand tight, and can be unscrewed easily too. Besides the fact that the tool itself was very oily from the factory, this is a nice addition to the tool box. Can also be used for other bits that require slow precision turns to include screw extractors. Not much else to say about it – it is a solid tool, made all from steel and should last a lifetime if I take care of it.

this GENERAL TOOLS PROFESSIONAL TAP WRENCH SET is a great upgrade over my Previous cheap tap Wrench options. These definitely beat using vise grips for my small taps. these wrenches have the sliding t bar that locks into eash position fairly firmly. the threads on each jaw are very smooth. the small tap can hold 0-1/4″(1.6mm-6.3mm) the large can hold #12-1/2″ (6mm-12.5mm) this set also comes with a drill tap size chart card. a handy little tool.

I’m a CNC machinist so I don’t use them often. I just chase tapped holes once in awhile. They hold all the sizes it says just fine. Minor complaint: They do tend to get stuck if you over tighten them. Nothing my pliers and elbow grease can’t fix though.

This tap wrench set is very handy for tight spaces. I can see it being useful in cramped areas, like around an engine that hasn’t been pulled, because the handle can be slid all the way to one side. There are also indents in the handles to prevent the handle from sliding off. The wrenches fit my largest and smallest taps which is also handy and they could be used with other tools with square connections, if needed. The reference ruler is very useful, too.I have one issue that became very annoying and that is the chuck is not spring loaded in the open position, meaning the jaws will stay together as you’re trying to open them to their widest ability. Also, and I knew this was not an option on this set, but would be nice if it was, the jaws do not ratchet. A ratchet option on these wrenches would make them even more useful. All around they’re a nice set and I recommend them to anyone looking for the options they provide.

This is a very smooth-operating tap wrench. After using it, I tossed all my old, cheapo tap wrenches, and am wondering why it took me so long to get a quality tap wrench. As you can see in the photos, the pieces which actually clamp the tap are separate pieces, not slot-cut like the cheap sets. They operate smoothly all the way down to the smallest setting and out to the largest setting.

This ones a no brainer! I love the way the wrench feels in my hands. You can tell immediately that its made with high grade quality materials. There is nothing fancy about this wrench. The chuck is easy to grip and turn as well. The wrench holds bits like a hungry shark and it will not let go. The sliding bars make it easy for those tight spots as well. That was some good engineering there in my opinion. I’m going to use this with my tap/dye set at work and its going to make life easier when tapping pieces that need a little elbow grease. Excellent piece! Excellent quality!

This seems to be a decent set by General Tools. The cost of the set seemed to be good deal since it was almost the price of one tap, plus comes with the case. The ratcheting handle is the highlight of this set, this is a must have for a tight space and getting the best leverage. The chuck is heavy and has good grips to help get it good and tight and straight, no problems so far with the die slipping.

I recieved these Profesional tap handles to use in my shop. I had to repair them prior to use. Both the small set and the large set had damaged threads that needed to be fixed prior to use. Once repaired the large tap handle preformed well but the small set needs to be loosened with a set of mechanics pliers. They both will hold a tap handle and do the job, but needed some work

A big enough tap handle that has lots of gripping area is how you create straight and accurate thread holes in a damaged thread situation. Even if you just want to clean out the thread, straightness is the most important thing because no one wants a bolt going off-center into a piece. This tap handle is self-centering! You can get tap sets anywhere but they sometimes come without handles or the handles that do come with the taps is one you would not have much use for. Taps come and go in different sizes, they wear from use, but the handle should not. This handle’s bottom spins lefty loosey righty tighty to accommodate with the smaller handle a number 0 to ¼ inch tap, and with the bigger handle a number 12 to ½ inch tap. When it comes time due to extensive use to change the jaws, you can! Replacement kits are available. There is a chart included showing information for metric or NC or NF, and standard pipe taps. Fraction to decimal conversions are included. The chart card is small. You may want to laminate it to keep its usefulness over time. The handles come lightly lubricated with oil and this should be a standard practice after each use because this is a tool and it should be respected. Don’t lubricate it and see in a year how hard it is to use. I used it to fix threads on a piece of equipment. It worked great! I recommend this product for general, around the house and in home shop use. I wish the warranty was a bit longer than 90 days.

I needed to replace my tap wrench set that’s 35+ years old and hard to tighten/loosen. These are so smooth. With the two sizes it fits both my large and small taps. That clamp down on the tap very well. They come in handy when working in tight spaces. I wish they would make it so you could attach a 3/8 ratchet to the end and also remove the handle when using with the ratchet. Think of the tight spaces you could use it in. They’ve includes a nice ref chart also.
