I needed this punch to make holes to fit grommets into. The largest hole on this punch can punch a hole large enough to fit a 00 / 3/16″ / 4mm size grommet. My need for this was in creating a corset. Although it didn’t cut clean through all of the fabric, it did cut enough of the fabric for me to use small scissors to finish removing the rest. It did cut through the petersham reinforcing strip cleanly. I’ve also used it to punch extra holes in the straps on my boots and it was super clean cuts and easy. The only downside is how it can be a bit tough to cut through multiple layers and my hand was getting very sore after punching 40 holes in a row. The first 5-10 were okay, but after that it got harder. I may try getting the upgraded version with the better grips. It’s just a shame they didn’t have it in the store for me to buy instead. The tool is very useful and easy to use. To rotate the head to change the size of the punch, you need a small screwdriver to loosen the arm keeping the punch in place, then you just re-tighten it once it’s at the setting you want. Although there weren’t instructions for that, it was pretty easy to figure out on my own. The tool is well worth the money it costs, and is something that can last a long time because it’s quite a sturdy tool.

This is a good tool for thinner, softer materiels. However on 3mm leather it is worse than useless. Will not punch all the way through, and the hanldles bent quite easily. So I finished the job with an Exacto knife. Pretty dissappointing.
