Grommets work great on tarps that I use to cover up openings on our back porch, especially when there is strong rain and gusty cold winds.

I bought this kit to put additional grommets in an air conditioner cover. It works great, but you need to install on a solid surface. I used the concrete floor in the garage. Also I first used a rubber mallet to drive the hole cutter and this didn’t work well. I then used a steel hammer.
