The TB3 connection is fantastic. I use it on an M1 Mac mini for my desktop photography work. My library of lifetime photos is on the drive as well as backed up of course, multiple times in the cloud and on NAS. But this drive is phenomenal. R/W is as fast to me as the internal storage on the Mac mini. I guess you could use some performance app to gauge the difference in file retrieval times, but for all practical purposes in human perception space- it is as fast as the 1TB ssd in my m1 Mac. If you remove the cushioned cover, the size of the drive is quite small. I like how the TB4 cable hides in the cushion when using in the field. Also works well with my iPad Pro- I can cull out photos in the field and download the keepers to the drive.

I purchased this drive to serve as a shared drive upon which my family stores documents, pictures, videos, etc. It serves our purpose splendidly and is a super fast drive.

8TB of bus powered SSD is a dream

I have a few of the 2TB and recently the 8TB…all have been extremely useful when, after a shoot finishes, allowing me to download increasing large amounts of data quickly. No issues thus far!!

As an exec. producer, I love the speed of this drive! When I’m on set with the DIT, it’s the fastest drive I’ve ever used transferring hi-res 4K-8K footage! I can usually have this drive done transferring the dailies before any backup drives are done. As a bonus, this drive is smaller in person. It’s about the size of an iPhone 12 Pro Max. That’s a bonus when flying with hard drives as you might know. Highly recommend if you need your time back to look at and/or edit the footage! Happy filming my fellow pro filmmakers!

As much as I have had high expectations, this drive not helping in smooth playback on Final cut 4-5 cameras MP4 4K video. Simple as it, it doesn’t have guts to handle 4K editing. Also even files transfer from hard rives to this drive just maybe 20% faster than regular 7200 RPM drives. It’s connected by thunderbolt 3 to my MacBook Pro 16 fully loaded with ram, 4tb internal SS, etc, etc. Still slow

Has been difficult to find drives that are both big and fast until now. The iMac connection to this one reports that it has the Sabrent Rocket Q Media. Compared to the Rocket itself, this has only the TB3 connection but that’s all I would use anyway. Comes in nice ruggedized rubber case that can be removed for more compactness. Had great results from prior TB3 Atom drive and this one appears to be just as good but BIGGER. Formatted as Encrypted APFS and disk filled to 68% of capacity, BlackMagic speed test still yields 1114 Mb/s Writes and 1737 Mb/s reads.
