I purchased two drives, assuming that the issues I had with the first were my own. But with very, VERY minor use, both failed completely. Not worth the stress at all.

Bought it to be a Time Machine for old Mac Mini to enable a smooth transition to new Mac Mini. Performance excellent so far.

I’ve purchased about 5 of these in the last two years, great drives.
Clarissa Nicolas (verified owner) –
Super fast, super quiet. Provide massive storage, and has a beatuful unique design on my desk. And easy to store and to stake on top of other drives.
Danika Bruen (verified owner) –
Large enough to edit you student projects and strong enough not fail on you while you’re while working. Glyph is an excellent company and BH Photo sold it at a good price.

I use this external drive to backup my 8TB MacBook. It takes some time to make backups, but I’m sure it would take much longer with a slower RPM drive. Seems dependable. I love the rubberized shock protection case.

I’m a huge fan of Glyph Technologies products. This will be my fifth hard drive I’ve gotten from them but this 12TB is the biggest! It will be nice to have ample space for my video files that are disk hogs.

I have this drive a couple of weeks and so far it has been very fast. I really like the rubber around it to protect it. Its quite a sleek design. Happy with it.

I have an 8TB @7200RPM from 10 yrs ago and Going string / just opted for a 18TB Enterprize/ which is Fanless. I’ve been a Professional DJ since 1983 – I have accumulated over 14TBs of MP3s My collection of External hard-drives are LaCie / G:Tech / W.D. Transcend & even some Older SeaGates that are still Up -n- Running like new & I mean 20 yrs old. I’ve been shopping @ B&H for Quite sometime / Gr8 customer service dept. Amazon is Good, but when it comes to Professional Products you’re better off with a Reliable & Knowledgeable Dealer. Thank You B&H

I have a stack of Glyph 8TB drives that I use for video storage and editing off of my Macbook Pro. They never give me any trouble. Not the cheapest, but reliability is everything. I use 2 slightly slower WD 8TB drives for onsite and offsite backup of the Glyphs.

This harddrive works well and has a nice rubber jacket to keep it from taking direct bumps to the body. What can’t be beaten is Glyph’s customer support.

Purchased this because it was one of the few external HD that had a USB-C generation 2 connection. Noticed much faster transfer speeds almost immediately. Its quiet and, so far, very reliable. I bought the 8 TB because the price jump to the 10 TB was significant. Of course, the 10 TB went on sale a week or so later and would have been an even better buy. I am using it on a PC so had to reformat it. The instructions that came with it weren’t exactly correct and so did a little internet search to find the correct reformatting procedure.

First time buying an external hard drive, and I’m feeling comfortable and confident buying one that has the horse power and can handle a lot. Definitely worth the purchase!

I purchased 2 of the 12 TB drives. I normally have used G-drive or Lacie drives. The Glyph drives seem solid and are just as fast. I use mine for photo storage, one a working drive and the other a clone. For my LR database I use a fast SSD so these rotating drives are just for the actual photos. The speed is fine and I have a little less than 4 TB on them. I wanted something large enough to last for a while and not be near capacity in the near future. The drives do not run hot and the noise is comparable to the G-drives. The drives are large and heavy but I do not have an issue with that. I called their customer service just to ask a question and actually got someone right away and they were helpful. By the way I use them with a mac.

I have a zillion HDs and these are great. Will be buying many more. Speed is comparable to a 2x the price OWC I just bought.

Used Glyph for a while and always found them well made and reliable. Compact for 10TB and so far so good…

I use this as an expansion drive on my workstation for video editing. Works great. I have it connected via the included USB-C to USB 3.0 cable. When I initially connected it to a USB 3.0 port on the PC the write speed was very slow, only 40 MB/s. Connecting it via a USB 3.0 powered hub brought the write speed up to the expected 240 MB/s.

I just purchased a second Glyph Blackbox Pro after seeing good results from my first one. The enclosure is solid and heavy. Seems very rugged. The noise level is the quietest I have experienced in a 7200 rpm external drive available from B&H for this price point. My only complaint is that the power supply and usb cables are too short and do not offer many options for location other than close to the computer and power source.

I purchased this Glyph drive on the recommendation of B&H. I needed a drive to transition to when I buy a new MAC Computer. This unit is supplied with two connector wires – USB 3.1 and Gen 2 type-C , so I will be all set. I know I will buy adapters, but a direct connection would be the fastest. I will probably buy another one in a few months. One cant have to many backups. It has an on and off switch, and Glyph tech says I can turn on and off at the power strip, just be sure to clear from the computer before shutting down the drive. On last note, I use the drive as an still image archive so speed is not essential and I havent timed write speed. It looks great too!

This is a very nice, high-quality enclosure. It’s solid and has thick rubber around the edges, which makes it easy to get a good grip on and may provide at least a bit of shock protection. (Throwing the enclosure still seems contraindicated.) It is a bit on the noisy side; we left one running an initial Time Machine backup overnight in our bedroom and that was definitely a mistake. Also, it won’t spin down during extended periods of inactivity, so there’s always a baseline minimum of fan noise and power usage. (This was the difference between 4 and 5 stars for me.) USB 3.1 gen 2 support means you’re waiting on the drive, not the bus, for the fastest possible access. It’s also nice of them to include both USB-C-to-C and USB-C-to-A cables. The packaging materials are nice, if not very green. Fortunately my wife was able to reuse rather than recycle. The price seems very reasonable for 8TB. (At the time of purchase, 8TB was the sweet spot in this product’s lineup for $/GB.) I looked at whether I could get an equivalent enclosure and drive separately for less, and I really couldn’t. One note: although it says Time Machine compatible out of the box if you plan to do encrypted backups — which you should — you should reformat the drive with encryption *before* you set up Time Machine to avoid major performance problems during the initial backup. (This is a problem with Time Machine, not the drive, so this is a buyer tip, not a complaint about the drive.)
