I use these frequently on tv/film production for media management. Ideal for a download station with power, or as a long term storage drive that you can edit on. 7200 RPM and USB-C connection means faster download times, which means a lot when your downloading often or multiple cameras.

I purchased this Glyph drive on the recommendation of B&H. I needed a drive to transition to when I buy a new MAC Computer. This unit is supplied with two connector wires – USB 3.1 and Gen 2 type-C , so I will be all set. I know I will buy adapters, but a direct connection would be the fastest. I will probably buy another one in a few months. One cant have to many backups. It has an on and off switch, and Glyph tech says I can turn on and off at the power strip, just be sure to clear from the computer before shutting down the drive. On last note, I use the drive as an still image archive so speed is not essential and I havent timed write speed. It looks great too!

This is my 4th drive – each time I step up to more storage.

So glad I bought this! Way easy. Plugin and use (Mac Pro here). I plan on getting 2 more as both back up and video editing drives.

I’m hardly an expert but this thing is fast, faster than any HD I’ve owned in the past. Simply plug it in and it does what it’s designed to do – back up my Mac and save my files. Too early to speak to long term reliability. So far, so good.

Huge amount of space for not much $$$. Looks good and is MUCH quieter than the drive it replaces. Transfer speeds are as advertised. Ask me in a year or three… that will be the real test.

Once I had it running, it was fast and quiet. It is tedious to format for a pc. You have to be certain to locate the Glyph or you might wipe another drive.
Virginie Renner (verified owner) –
Super fast, super quiet. Provide massive storage, and has a beatuful unique design on my desk. And easy to store and to stake on top of other drives.
Krystina Farrell (verified owner) –
I purchased two drives, assuming that the issues I had with the first were my own. But with very, VERY minor use, both failed completely. Not worth the stress at all.

Great performance and great price.

As others have stated, this has been a total disappointment. It cannot be trusted to complete a task without disconnecting.
Heidi Rohan (verified owner) –
12 TB and 7200rpm makes this a great drive for video file storage and editing. It’s also quiet.
Reinhold Prohaska (verified owner) –
Purchased this because it was one of the few external HD that had a USB-C generation 2 connection. Noticed much faster transfer speeds almost immediately. Its quiet and, so far, very reliable. I bought the 8 TB because the price jump to the 10 TB was significant. Of course, the 10 TB went on sale a week or so later and would have been an even better buy. I am using it on a PC so had to reformat it. The instructions that came with it weren’t exactly correct and so did a little internet search to find the correct reformatting procedure.

For me, the name of the game is durability when it comes to external drives. I use them to store lots of video. I have come to trust Glyph as many of my G Drives have failed, sometimes within just a year. This drive, like my other Glyph, is fast, quiet, and durable. My initial backup went quickly, it fires up quickly, and tirelessly works in the background with no problems (so far!)

Great drive, speed, and usefulness. It’s quite a bit bigger than I had expected, but aside from that, working great!

Thanks again for all the great service and pricing! You guys are awesome!

Love this drive. Use it for photo editing in lightroom and photoshop, and so far it’s been quick, responsive, and solid. The 7200 rpm keeps the flow going, although I have to use the USB 3.0 connector as my Mac doesn’t have type-c … would love/wish to have that capability! Will be sticking with these for a while, plus their warranty is amazing.

This is my first 7200rpm drive, and all I can say is that it is FAST! I use it to hold my Final Cut Pro X libraries and I have absolutely no noticeable performance differences than keeping my media on my boot drive. It is noisier (not terribly so, but you will definitely notice it and I wouldn’t recommend it if you were planning on doing any audio recording in the same room) than my portable Western Digital Elements drives, and it does need to be plugged into an AC outlet. But even for those two little things, it is well worth the purchase.

It is alleged that this hard drive is very quiet except for the sound of the disc spinning. NOT TRUE. There is a very distinct and very audible clickety-clack even when the drive is sitting in idle. When the drive is being written to, those clicking sounds are constant and totally aggravating. The Rocstor products blow this one out of the water. Which is too bad, because it has a very nice appearance and seems solidly constructed.

I purchased 2 of the 12 TB drives. I normally have used G-drive or Lacie drives. The Glyph drives seem solid and are just as fast. I use mine for photo storage, one a working drive and the other a clone. For my LR database I use a fast SSD so these rotating drives are just for the actual photos. The speed is fine and I have a little less than 4 TB on them. I wanted something large enough to last for a while and not be near capacity in the near future. The drives do not run hot and the noise is comparable to the G-drives. The drives are large and heavy but I do not have an issue with that. I called their customer service just to ask a question and actually got someone right away and they were helpful. By the way I use them with a mac.
