I was sent this item for review, so I had no expectations. From the moment I opened the box i loved it! Very compact, which I need for my small apartment. Comes with scoop for rice, strainer to rinse rice in hassle-free and a measuring cup. Super easy to use and once all the water is absorbed it turns from the cook function to warm. A couple things I would change about this rice cooker: there should be an on/off function so that I don’t have to worry about plugging in and unplugging and instruction manual could be a little clearer with the water chart and how much per cup to add to the rice. Overall a wonderful steamer/rice cooker. Might be my new favorite appliance!

Two things that my family and friends will say that I am awesome at is cooking and upholstering furniture. But when it comes to cooking rice, to say that I am horrible at it is an understatement. I was so bad at cooking rice that I was also known at my local Chinese Restaurant for coming in to buy rice to go with my meal that I prepared at home. So, when I was asked to review the Hamilton Beach 16-Cup Rice Cooker & Steamer I was ecstatic. If I can prepare perfect rice using the Cooker anyone should be able to. I must admit though when I received the Cooker I let it sit for several weeks. I was totally intimidated. Finally, I decided to take it out the box and prepare a dish.I refused to cook the basic white rice for my first test. I chose instead to do a vegetable dirty rice. I started with a pre-packaged box of dirty rice (brand name hidden) that included 1 cup of white rice and the seasoning packet. Following the box instructions, I poured and mixed the rice, the seasoning and added 2 ½ cups of water. To the rice mixture, I added ¾ cup of broccoli, ½ cup of red bell peppers, ¼ cup of carrots and onions, and 1/8 cup of celery. I did not stir the vegetables into the mixture but scattered them as I dropped the vegetables in. I placed the lid on the Cooker and placed the Cooker into the base. As the Cooker instructions stated, I pressed the cook switch down and walked away. After all, the instructions stated that the Cooker would automatically shut off when done.Ten minutes into the cooking I could smell the aroma of the vegetable dirty rice and I could hear a click from the Cooker so I curiously walked over to look. It was bubbling away. I was impressed. Ten more minutes went by and I heard another click so I looked again. The water had decreased tremendously. Minutes later the Cooker clicked, and the light switched from Cook to Warm. It was done.Nervous and anxious at the same time I removed the lid and voila! It looked perfect. But as we know looks can be deceiving so I spooned it out using the perfect scooping spoon that came with the Cooker. The rice WAS perfect!! It wasn’t mushy or broken and the taste was awesome!! Finally, after attempting to cook rice for years, I can finally say I cook rice well! Oh! Did I mention that you can prepare oatmeal (my favorite) and steam vegetables too? Thank you, Hamilton Beach, for this game changer. I can’t wait to prepare my next dish.

The Hamilton Beach Rice & Steam cooler is really amazing and simple. I really love when the company provides both an instruction manual along with cooking categories and types. The functionally is superior, you’ll have two parts to operate, first the main bowl which holds the water to cook your rice, and then you’ll have the steam bowl which is cleverly invented. There isn’t any “on/off” button instead there’s a “warm” and “cook” button. It’s simplifies everything for the general consumer. The size of the device is pretty small which fits perfectly in a small kitchen. I cooked a variety of foods and also steamed vegetables. The one thing to mention (and not sure if it’s with every device) that mine started to smell like burning aluminum. I’d say that this may be the breakin period, but HB will have to confirm. Overall, really awesome 2-in-1 cooker and I’m overall satisfied with it. Long live steamed broccoli!

This 16-cup rice cooker was sent to me by Hamilton Beach to test/try. Both my husband and I eagerly awaited its arrival. It came in a timely manner, carefully packaged, in excellent condition. (Never send a boy…my husband went to the store and bought medium-grain rice. He said he never knew there were different kinds of rice, being only used to Uncle Ben’s or Minute Rice!) We used the rice cooker to cook rice to accompany sweet & sour sauce and egg rolls. The only complaint is that there needs to be handles or indentions of some kind on the strainer “basket.” It was a tad difficult to grab onto to lift out of the pot to drain the rice. The rice itself came out tender, totally cooked–the best we’ve ever had! LOVE this cooker and can’t wait to try shrimp and/or vegetables next.

I received last month. I just love this cooker, cooks many items not just one. Quick and easy. Saves me time everytime I cook

The rice cooker is attractive, lightweight, doesn’t take up a lot of countertop space, and is very easy to use. It made enough rice for several days of meals, and we enjoyed every one of them. The rice was light and fluffy, and paired well with whatever main dish was on the menu. It is GREAT that I can steam my veggies and cook my rice at the same time! This is an awesome product. I will be trying the hot cereal recipes in it soon.

I got this Rice Cooker about a month ago and have not had the opportunity to use it until yesterday. I have always cooked the rice dishes in the past according to package directions (usually boil the rice.) I very pleasantly had my mind changed about how to cook rice with a steamer. This cooker is so easy to use, just add the suggested amount of water and rice and set a timer, the reduce the temperature to warm when the time goes off. It’s just that easy. I do wish that Hamilton Beach had added lift-out handles, but that is not really a bothersome thing. If for no other reason, I would have given this steamer 5 stars, but don’t let the handles throw you off. They are just a very minor item.Clean up is so very, very easy too.I would recommend this Rice Steamer.

Received this rice cooker about 3 weeks ago and overall performance is good. This product is extremely easy to clean. It did have a smell when first used, but it went away. Also, I followed suggested measurements and they were off, but once I figured out how much water was actually needed rice came out good. This rice cooker is easy to use and I am happy with the results.

I’ve been using this rice cooker off and on for about a month now, and I’m very satisfied with the performance. It works great not only as a rice cooker, but I find myself using the steam basket as well for veggies. Being dishwasher friendly is also a nice touch, my rice has come out cooked well most of the times although I find myself adding a little bit more water then the directions state. I also like the small profile on my kitchen counter as well. This is just a No-Frills rice cooker that gets the job done. But I would definitely recommend it

The Hamilton Beach 16 cup rice cooker and steamer is the perfect little addition to my kitchen! My family loves steamed veggies, and you can even cook them on the top while making rice in the bottom! What a great idea! Previously, I would use the old pot and metal strainer to steam veggies on the stovetop, but you have to watch the water level because it seemed to run out before the veggies were done because the basket sat so close to the bottom of the pot. Not this steamer! I followed the directions and added 2 cups of water to the bottom, filled the basket with cauliflower on top and hit the cook button – 20 minutes later the cauliflower was perfectly steamed! The steamer will switch from cook to warm when it runs out of water, however there was about 1/4 cup of water left when I decided my veggies were done so I switched it to warm myself and finished preparing the rest of our meal. The basket is dishwasher safe so that is a bonus compared to trying to hand wash the collapsible metal strainer. The only slightly negative comment I have for this guy is that the basket could be just a touch larger (or include 2 sizes so if you want to use more of the space for veggies). About 1/8 of the head of cauliflower (normal size) wouldn’t fit. Overall, this steamer is easy, no mess, no fuss, and will be a great addition to my kitchen gadgets!

its all about the timing and the type of rice you use. The first time we cooked rice it was not done based on the amount and time I had been used to in the past, but the next time we adjusted the time and rice was perfect. we have steamed vegetables a few times now and they have been perfect every time, again adjusting time you were used to in our old cooker. Its just my wife and I so it is the ideal size for us. it cleans very easy too

Iam so happy with this rice cooker everything I have made in it has turn out delicious. The rice was perfect, the zucchini was perfect and the carrots were just great great. All the vegetables had so much flavor so much better tasting than on the stove. I just love how it has its own brain and knows when the food is done to perfection. Please see the photos I have added I highly recommend this rice cooker you won’t be sorry.
