There is not anything negative about this coffee maker that I would report. Nice looking, small footprint, easy to setup and use. The cleanup is a breeze and to be able to use K-cups or your favorite ground coffee is a plus! Also, under the pedestal there is a storage area to store whatever holder ( k-cup or grounds filter} you are not using. Nice feature!!

I’ve only made coffee with the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew, using grounds (not single-serve cups) so that’s all I’ll “speak” about. The coffee is very hot – which is how I like it. It’s fresher & less bitter when you make one cup at a time as opposed to standard coffee makers where you make several cups and it sits forhowever long. It takes about 3 – 3½ minutes for a full “tank” of water to heat and fill a large, tall tavel-size cup.Even though I ran a cycle with plain, cold water in theFlexBrew before using it for the first time (as per the instructions) the first several cups had an unpleasant aroma and taste – kind of chlorine-like. So I recommend doing the cold water step at least twice, maybe 3 times before making any hot beverages.If you use ground coffee instead of pods, the directionssuggest 3 Tablespoons per cup. If you’re usinga travel cup that amount should be okay, but 3 Tbsp. makes the coffee too strong for a standard coffee mug;at least it was for me. It may take a bit of experimenting,sort of trial and error, until you find the right amount of coffee to use. It really depends on the size of the cup and, of course, your personal perferences for coffee strength. Removing grounds & cleaning the filter cup isn’t as easy asit is with standard coffee makers (where you just toss the filterin the trash and rinse the filter holder). Most coffee makers withreusable filters are fairly easy to empty and clean. However, the mesh in the filter cup of the FlexBrew is very fine…which is great for beverage purposes…not so great for emptying.The grounds stick to the mesh so it isn’t just a matter of tipping it upside down to remove the coffee grounds; it takes a bit more effort. Additionally, the cup has an attached lid so when you tap on the side of a trash basket or compost bin the lid “flops” around.I worried the lid would break off! While the mesh filter makes for good tasting beverages, it also makes it more difficult when you’re trying to empty the coffee grounds. Seems like there should be a better, easier way to do such a simple task. I considered buying little paper, throw-away, filters but before taking that step I cut regular filters into small circles. That didn’t solve the problem; in fact just it made more of a mess. All in all the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew is an easy, quick way toprepare hot, fresh coffee one cup at a time. It really lives up to it’s name. Brewing can be done with single-serve pods or ground coffee. And the machine’s designed to accomodate different cup sizes.

This unit is streamline so it does not take a lot of counter space and is very easy to clean, operate and run. The fact that it utilizes both K-cups or coffee grounds satisfies everyone’s personal needs. It also saves us a lot of money from having to stop at a local coffee shop for those individual cups of coffee; now we just take it with us as we run out the door and everyone gets to have exactly what they want in a short amount of time.
