I didn’t read instructions and was surprised when it cut the side of the can instead of the top. Much neater and cleaner cut. It’s also very easy to operate -no pressing real hard or hard-to-turn knobs. Good for the elderly. It’s also much quieter than our old one. We were also tired of buying batteries and having our one-touch stop when the battery got weak; they’re near impossible to get off the can so you can access the battery compartment. No more of those things. I would’ve given the Hamilton five stars but I’ve only had it for a short time, and my complaint about this type of product is early failure. I’ll add a star after another month… (Oh, heck -I’m giving it the fifth star now!)…

The Hamilton beach elec can opener cuts the can well, as long as it has a lip on the top or bottom of reg can. I do not know if it can cut a tall can. As long as you hold and press your hand on the silver lever the can turns. It is easy to listen to the different sound when can is finished opening, if it is quiet. The black and silver coloring looks well with other stainless appliances

This is an excellent can opener, especially for someone with disabilities in their hands and/or wrists, You have to lift the chrome lever and insert the can under the blade. While holding the can in place with one hand, press the lever down with your other hand. You can let go until the can has rotated one full turn. Hold the can in one hand while raising the lever. Remove can. The lid remains on the can until you pull it off. There are NO sharp edges on the lid or the can. If you have food left in the can, the lid fits snuglt for air-tight storage in the fridge. The lever is stiff but loosens a bit after a few days. I recommend it.

Awesome Can Opener!! Easy on the hands and quiet smooth operation! Love it!Purchased this to replace an old Hamilton Beach Classic Can Opener that lasted for many many years and decided to go with this one, even hubby who hated my last can opener loves using it! People just need to read the instructions and not let it rotate around more than once otherwise you will get shards of metal in your food, this didn’t happen to me but I read the internet reviews where some people complained about it not realizing it was due to their own negligence of not following instructions! I highly recommend this for people who have arthritis!
