I have eight SATA ports on my motherboard. But I have six HDD’s and three SSD’s plus a CD/DVD drive and a blueray drive. Of course, that makes eleven SATA ports needed. This card made up the difference and works just as well as those on the motherboard. However, the card must plug into a PCI-E 3.0 or higher slot and will not fit an express slot. So be sure that you have at least this capability or it will not work. I tried it in a PCI-E 2.0 and it would not work at all. I have used it for the CD/DVD and blueray drives with one of the other HDDs and it performs perfectly.

I’m using the card in a Mid 2010 Mac Pro, with 2 SSDs in RAID 0. I opted not to go for the more expensive card with a RAID controller. No drivers, and everything works out of the box!

Works great OOB on MacPro 2010. Option key boot selection enabled, boot macOS or Windows – no problem. Real 6Gbps speeds. No drivers required for both El Capitan and Sierra. Drives appear as SATA in system

The product description says that it supports Linux, but it does not.
