This unit was easy to install- plug and play. I gave this model a shot because of the reasonable price and good reviews. Build quality seems good.

I owned one of their USB Dock which I paid 2 times more than $, that cannot sleep well and some other issue which was not great and pricy. I have looked up review of their Thunderbolt dock didn’t see review point out problem like I had their USB so I give them a try, bang Yes they are. This new dock sleep well and no clanky issue, it stop spinning as my Macbook in sleep mode and system detect it fast.. I feel weird did B&H sell at wrong price because the quality they delivered really worth higher than I paid for????

The performance numbers claimed by HighPoint seem legitimate. Over 350MB/s reads with a OWC SSD- this is very impressive for a sub $ storage dock: . With these numbers, its not hard to see the advantage over a USB 2.0. The build quality is also quite good – something else I did not expect for a dock in this price range. It also seems to have solid compatibility, as it worked flawlessly with several Seagates and a Hitachi 4TB SATA hard drive. Of not, the power cord is also of a generous length, so no worries about having to rearrange your workspace.

I have a previous model (smart backup), really like the option to swap out any SATA drive/SSD, regardless of capacity or size (2.5 and 3.5 are supported). It seems to work with any system (2010 macpro and Windows 8 machines). No issues so far. I use it nearly every day and it hasn’t skipped a beat!

As a Classic Mac Pro 4,1 user – now upgraded to 5,1 and with a Metal capable GPU – my original system hard-drive (2009) with earlier Mac OS was not mounting as there are incompatibility issues with trying to use the original GPU and the ‘newer’ Metal GPU when both are installed. All the files (not the original OS’s) mounted on this device were recognised by the current OS (2019) as a USB 3 external hard drive. No problems.
