A multifunctional unit for demanding workplaces, the Color LaserJet Pro M479FDN Multifunction Printer from HP offers printing, scanning, copying, and faxing functions to fulfill your imaging needs. This model produces sharp text and prints in black or color at speeds as fast as 28 ppm while supporting media sizes up to 8.5 x 14", and for handling media the printer comes equipped with two paper trays. Tray 1 has a 50-sheet capacity for smaller jobs, and for larger jobs Tray 2 has a 250-sheet capacity. In addition to the two input trays, the M479FDN also has a 50-sheet ADF and a 150-sheet output bin. Scan speeds are a quick 26 ppm while copy speeds are as fast as 19 ppm. Additionally, the unit lets you scan to e-mail and a USB thumb drive. You can quickly check and change settings via the 4.3" color touchscreen, and the unit offers USB 2.0 and Ethernet slots in the back for connecting to a computer. Made to be durable, the M479FDN features a maximum monthly duty cycle of 50,000 pages, with a recommended volume between 750 and 4000 pages.

Like all HP printers it is made very well and should last for a long time. However, when I read the description I purchased based on two final items: duplex printing and wireless network. Although the description I read said it had these features and since the model number includes “dn” (which used to stand for Duplex and Networking) I believed I was getting exactly what i was looking for. I am now forced to but an addition print server so my family can connect wirelessly and the only duplex I find is when I select duplex it print then tells me to reinsert my print job so it can print the other pages. THAT IS NOT DUPLEX. I have been buying HP printers for decades, I do not know about the future.

I researched many different printers, ink jet and Laser for home office use. Installation went smoothly and printing is quick, crisp and easy with very short warm up from sleep mode. Scanning is also very efficient.

Great MF Printer but very heavy weight (50+ pounds). Toner is VERY expensive. For the 4 high capacity cartridges I paid the same money as for the MFP M477fdw.

I was completely frustrated with HP consumer products – I went through three printers that were total dog dirt. I would not have purchased this one, but HP was only allowing me a “gift card” exchange for the last one that failed us. This one finally works pretty well – i.e. it prints cards and envelopes, but unfortunately they come out curved – the roller is too tight, so we have to flatten them out with weights.

The printer functions work great. However, the location of the control panel interferes with copying or scanning objects that may need to partially hang over the edge of the printer copy surface (books, large sheets, etc.). Therefore, I would not recommend this printer.

I’m not one to go out of my way to leave a review but in this case I will. Had great luck with an HP laserJet I purchased four years ago for my small business. After putting some serious work through it and wearing it out, I decided to get another HP. Everything setup perfectly within minutes with the exception of the scan to computer feature. Finally had to call customer service, it took them all of five minutes to remote in and figure out what I did wrong, then I was good to go!

My only problem was getting the printer to accept Wi-Fi. Had to get someone that’s computer smart to come in and get the printer to printing from the internet. She had to download some software to make that happen. Otherwise, the printer quality is great and fast! Love it!

Would not recommend for office use. Printing 300 pages and it stopped half way thru and gave a warning that the printer was too hot and it would finish my print job later…poorly designed and manufactured.

The connectivity and scanning is total disaster. We have strong wifi signal in the office and no chance to keep it wired, but printer is constantly loosing the connection and is shown as offline. The scanning of multiple pages, especially two-sided is total disaster. It loses connection or showing the error EVERY TIME. Paper is ALWAYS stuck when scanning more then 3-4 pages (ex 10-12). It took me nearly 1.5 hours yesterday to scan 9 double-sided pages

Just recently received this and was extremely disappointed not wireless. Misread details, but misleading in fact of eprint capabilities, assumed it had wireless capabilities. Make sure you read the spec details. Waste of money if you need wireless capabilities. Large paper weight in my house now! Would not recommend.

This is not a good printer for busy office work. It doesn’t handle labels well, bonded paper is so slow to print. It constantly stops mid print job to clean and for “printer initialization”. Alot of paper jams. For regular printing it would be OK for smaller jobs.
