This is a good glass cutter for the price. I bought this to cut glass inserts in single pane glass for picture frames and cabinet doors. I’ve had this for about a year now and have used it on quite a few occasions. It scores the glass well and glides easily. When using a straight edge it was difficult at times to keep the cutter head on track because small changes in the angle with which the cutter is held changes where the score line is. With some practice it gets easier to use consistently and accurately. I usually score the glass at least twice before breaking it along the score line. Once wasn’t enough on single pane glass to get a good even break. I have not used oil with this cutter so I’m not sure how that might impact the scoring.I would probably get this item again because it is so cheap and easy to replace.

For under $5, I can’t imagine getting a cutter better than this. The roller has a little play in it, but tight tolerances aren’t necessary on a tool like this, as the score line is still accurate. Imnmediately after purchasing it cut two pieces perfectly (with oil of course) and this tool made it look as easy as the youtube videos. I used a straight edge as a guide and scored the glass, then flipped it over and ran the ball end of the tool along the score line. It popped right apart. The ball end does not have any casting marks on it like a low quality tool, and it works very well.

This glass cutter was good enough to do the job I wanted it to do. It was not easy to use and I am not sure if it will be lasting for a few more jobs. Since part of the problem might have been me,I give it a 4 star.

I was hesitant to buy this inexpensive item as opposed to the set that includes cutting oil and sells for more than 4X the price. In the end, I just bought this and it worked perfectly. Most likely the glass you buy has tape residue on it (the product that HD sells is taped into the cardboard carrier), so you probably had to buy Glue Gone anyway. Do what I did, and don’t bother buying glass cutting oil or kerosene. Just use Glue Gone as the lubricant. Make only a single score, as the instructions on the glass say (do not try for two scores). Then flip the glass over and tap the opposite side with the ball on the tool. After that, it should snap very cleanly. Mine did on the first attempt. I was worried that I didn’t apply enough pressure (I used the cutting tool much like a pencil, with similar pressure — so even though I heard the tool scratching the glass I found it hard to believe that was enough). Trust the instructions and it should work great.

Works on thinner glass. For thicker glass, it does not cut well.
