Solid set of basic 1/2 inch drive sockets. Probably not for pros, but I’ve been using Husky sockets for years and they stand up to the abuse I give them.

If you do enough heavy-duty maintenance, you may eventually find that your 3/8” drive socket set is not up to the task. The smaller drive sockets may crack or the ratchet drive will fail. It’s happened to me, sometimes resulting in a bruised knuckle. That’s why I got this set, and it doesn’t disappoint. Although I just got the set, the sockets and ratchet look well-constructed, and feel like they will last a long time. The lifetime (no questions asked) free-replacement warranty eliminates most concerns, including the potential for bruised knuckles, because I would think it would be more cost-effective for a manufacturer to deliver quality products in the first place, than to incur replacement costs. At 37-pieces, it will not contain every size you might ever need, but it does contain many of the standard length metric and SAE sizes that would commonly be used in larger heavy-duty applications for which this size drive is most useful (up to 1-1/8 inch SAE and 22MM), as well as a smaller selection of deep sockets (up to 7/8 inch SAE and 21MM). Two socket extensions are also included. I think this combination of sockets will help you deal with the most common fastener sizes you are likely encounter. The inclusion of deep sockets as part of the set is a terrific bonus since they are not often included in similarly paired sets, but they can be a difference-maker in terms of getting the job done particularly in areas where there is no space for a pliers. The features I like most are the secure manner the sockets lock onto the ratchet drive and also the ability to incrementally move fasteners in areas with limited access. With the socket lock it is nearly impossible to remove the sockets by hand, without pressing the socket release button on the ratchet. This means no more sockets working loose to fall into the car engine compartment to be lost forever or to land on the floor in the dark space below the car. But a simple push of the release button removes the socket using one hand (see picture). As to removing or installing fasteners in confined areas, the ratchet pawl will engage in very small increments, which allows the user to turn a fastener in areas where handle movement is restricted. I love these features – they save knuckles and eliminate a lot of frustration. The one thing I would like to see, is a knurled surface engraved into the ratchet handle – although the smooth surface makes it easy to clean (see picture), it can get slippery from lubricants and oil. A knurled pattern etched into the handle would make it easier to grip. While this is not critical to its usefulness, I think it would be helpful. The size markings on the sockets are physically etched into the surface meaning they won’t disappear over time (see picture), and the plastic storage case is well-organized and designed to allow you to grip the tool you want without having to work to pry it out (see picture). I’m not sure about the life-expectancy of the plastic snap-locks that are used to lock the storage case – it seems to me that a metal lock might be more durable, but they do work well. All in all, this seems to be a fine assortment of well-crafted sockets, ratchet and extensions that will service the vast majority of DIY applications for heavy-duty use. I would recommend it to a friend.

Easy to identify sizes and ease of use made this set a big help in putting the track back on the bobcat excavator. They cleaned up nicely after using in the mud and grease.

First of all, the tool set is of remarkable quality and functions as one would expect. Second, first rattle out of the box I needed a 3/8″ socket, which of course this tool set stops at 1/2″ and therefore had to walk to the barn and grab a trusty craftsman socket, SO beware 3/8″ and 5/16″ sizes are not included in this set. Finally, due to the loose fit of the tools within the molded plastic case it is nearly impossible to re-close the case on the first try ( or second, or third, or fourth etc.). Just when you get the tools back into the case and are 1/2 way to fully closing the case one of the sockets will fall out of the case and block your ability to put the tool case closed. Maybe when temperatures drop from 90+ degrees to 32 degrees the problem may solve itself. Surprising how the little things generate frustration hence four stars only.

You just can’t beat Husky tools for quality. As an auto mechanic, now as a hobby, I’ve used just about every brand of tool made. I always come back to Husky for quality, reliability, and value. This is a really nice set for 1/2″ drive. It has most of the common sizes used for auto repair and other jobs around the ranch or farm. The ratchet has a quick-release to remove the socket or extension. Each socket has the fastener size in an easy-to-read marking. The case also has the size marked as well.Well made tools at a great price.

The set includes SAE and mm sockets as well as deep sockets, and 3 inch and 5 inch extensions as well. It has a full polish quick-release ratchet and the whole thing is covered with a lifetime warranty just in case you ever need it. A very nice and large set.
