Well this is going to be a useful addition to the toolbox. Occasionally I think it would be nice to have a set of deep-well impact sockets but not often enough to be able able to justify their purchase. I have lug nuts on my trailer and my lawn tractor that are inset and have always had to attack them from a forced awkward angle. This makes it much easier to get the job done. Never had any problems with Husky tools.

The 1/2 inch impact U joint by Husky is a good product. The universal worked fine at pretty severe angles but I was a little concerned about the open area which houses the swivel joint. It was not as smooth as other universals I have used. There are several schools of thought. At first I was skeptical about the openness of the swivel area being susceptible to dirt. But after use and then spraying a little WD 40 on the swivel area it seemed to work much better. The upside to being open is the joint is easier to clean out or lubricate. As with all Husky products they are backed with the lifetime guarantee. I took several photos of the top but they are not real clear, but one is below.

Often times the socket alignment isn’t perfect or straight when working to remove larger nuts on equipment. That requires a different angle to get the socket on the nut or bolt. That’s where this is a good unit to have to work with. It’s rugged and gives a good range of motion to use to get the maximum amount of torque to remove rusted or old bolts.

This is a handy little too to help when you are trying to reach a tight spot. The u-joint locks in place using groves in the joint so you do not get slippage as you work the bolts loose. I have a few other flex joints extensions for my ratchet. This one is more robust and can take more of a load however the range of motion is slightly limited. It works OK and worthwhile to keep one with your impact wrench.

This Husky ½ in. Drive U-joint (Model #H2DIMPUNIV – Made in China) is specifically designed for impact wrenches – and it shows. Compared to a standard u-joint it’s bigger all around, and the flex mechanism is entirely different to accommodate the forces of an impact driver. That also limits the range of motion of the joint, but not beyond what’s reasonable for use with a power driver (see photo). The finish is smooth and the size is both engraved and stamped on the body of the u-joint, along with appropriate safety warnings. I found the small detente ball on the male part of the adaptor to be nicely stiff, so the sockets won’t fall off but can be pulled off without too much effort. The hole on the female side though isn’t chamfered at all, so the pin/ball on the impact driver locks very securely in the adaptor, requiring a punch to depress the ball in order to remove the u-joint from the impact driver. It will not separate in use. Overall this appears to be a well made, functional U-Joint and a very good price. It comes with Husky’s standard Lifetime Warranty, so as long as Home Depot is in business there should be no problem replacing it if breaks.
