I have an Xterra and my Yakima rack is held on by a 15/16 bolt. Due to the way an Xterra hitch is made, the Yakima tool or standard wrench will not work. The best solution, in my opinion, is a 15/16 socket and wrench. Since most standard socket sets only go up to 13/16, I needed to order this. It works perfectly and I can install my rack in a matter of seconds now.

A good fit for 2018 3.6 liter V-6 Jeep Grand Cherokee oil filter housing. The actual inside measurement of this socket with digital calipers is 24.1mm so it fits most 24mm applications for a lot less $$ than an actual 24mm socket. Of course it will work for 15/16 inch applications as well. Plus it has a lifetime warranty at a good selling price. Yes it is made in China, but it should be fine for non-impact DIY hand tool work. I don’t have a habit of using SAE tools for metric applications but in this case it is a good snug useable fit.

This socket works perfectly as the Oil-Filter socket to remove the Oil-Filter on a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. It is just a slight bit smaller than the 24mm plastic housing. So it fits perfectly snug on the hex connection.

I picked these up because I often have a preference for a 6 point socket when I can find the right sized one at hand. This was a good selection of sizes and they are all the 6 point style. I must have 6 or 7 sets of sockets from assorted manufacturers over the past 35 years. It’s a big mix of styles, types and sizes and some I’ve managed to keep complete while others have had a few lost over time. So it’s good to get a full set of 6 pointers to assure I can just glance at one set and get what I’m after for most jobs. I tried these with 5 different ratchets from 5 different manufacturers – some quick release some not. The best one I had was a Grip brand ratchet while the others ran the gamut from there down to the very very cheap. I also tried them with some Craftsman extensions I had. They fit everything I tried them with smoothly and snugly. They fit tight on the quick release ratchets and released easily. The 6 point gave me a good grip. The only thing I see that perhaps could use a little improvement was the imprinting on them. The type is large and bold which I really like since my vision stinks without reading glasses. But the thing that could be a little better is that while on some the size markings are solid and deep looking on others they appear a little on the light side and a tad faint making them a little harder to read. On those fainter ones I have to be pickier about how I hold it to the light to read it. The consistency there could fare just a little better. I would think those fainter shallower markings could possibly wear down over time with heavy use. But at my age I don’t think that will be a problem for me. They’ll likely last longer than me if I take decent care of them. All in all these compare very favorably with the Grip set that I have. They appear to be about the same quality but the writing on these is a little larger if not as deep so it is a little easier to read. The Grip set I have is complete and kept in its case when not in use and they are all 6 point sockets also but they do not cover quite the size span that these do and more of them are the deep well type. So this set compliments that set well and gives me a bit more variety in sizes.

Since ratchets have navigated to 72 tooth versions or higher, these 6pt sockets are the way to go. Access is much less of an issue than it used to be. Additionally these are made by APEX, who also makes Matco stuff too (along with others such as Gearwrench, etc.) There’s a picture of a dual stamped Husky/Silver Eagle (ie Matco) floating out there on the web. For the price, these are almost impossible to beat.
