TKO Hole Cutters offer the most efficient and clean cutter replacement for traditional knockouts, by making smooth holes in a fraction of the time at a fraction of the cost. Specifically designed to cut sheet metal, TKO cutters will even cut stainless steel with fine grained, carbide tips. The innovative design includes the exclusive SmoothStart replaceable pilot drill, which guides the cutter to the surface, avoiding cutter damage and providing smoother holes.

TKO Master Electrician’s 7/8 in. to 2-1/2 in. Carbide-Tipped Hole Cutter Kit (8-Piece) – I could have used this set forty some odd years ago when I was an assembly electrician in a large machine manufacturing plant where we had to use knockout punch sets to make holes in cabinets etc. Now I do very little electrical work, but have found these hole saws useful in cutting nice clean holes in laminate counter tops and flooring where normal bi-metal hole saws leave a ragged edge and speed bits get dull after several few holes. I also use them to cut holes for penetrations in siding. They really work great.

I just had the opportunity to utilize 7/8″ hole saw from this hole-saw kit. I needed to cut holes in my truck bed liner to mount my bed extender. I was very pleased with the results. Even though I was not cutting through metal, it cut through the plastic bed liner nice, clean, and smooth. I was pleased with the results. I have some future electrical work to do and I’m anxious to try the hole saws on a metal box. I’ll do a secondary review then.

I am impressed. This entire hole saw kit so well-designed and a lot of thought and engineering went into it. Obviously this is designed for sheet metal, for anyone such as electricians who need precise holes cut in a reasonable amount of time. From 7/8 to 2-1/2in it offers a variety of hole sizes. The carbide tipped saws aren’t even in the same league as the old bi-metal ones that stainless steel pretty much laughs at. The spring ejector and overdrill flange are further proof of the design that went into this set. The case is decent quality.

Years ago I needed to put a hole in a piece of gutter for float to make a water trough for my chickens. The best I had was a 1″ butterfly bit. Because gutter material is thin, it worked, but I had burrs to clean off and the hole needed enlarging a little.I said if I ever had the chance to get metal hole cutters, I would and did. A week later and a friend and I were putting in my new stove top (old one 50+ years old). The old connection box had 1/2″ knockouts and the new electric cable is 3/4″. What to do? Get out the new metal hole cutters and cut a 3/4″ hole in the old box. 1/2″ cable comes in from power source – 3/4″ cable goes out to the new stove top. The cutter was easy to use and fast – put the box in a vice to hold it while the hole was being cut.

I am really impressed with the quality built into this Ideal TKO Master Electrician’s 7/8 in. to 2-1/2 in. Carbide-Tipped Hole Cutter Kit (8-Piece). You get 7/8, 1 1/8, 1 3/8, 1 3/4, 2 and 2 1/2 inch hole cutters in the set, along with a couple spare guide bits and an Allen wrench. I especially like the overdrill flange to prevent you from penetrating beyond the sheet metal you are cutting. This is especially useful for areas where you are cutting “blind”, and are not really sure what is beyond your cutting area, or when you need to stop your cut precisely where you want it. You do need to use slow RPM’s for your cuts so you don’t overheat and burn up your cutter. Some hand-drills make that difficult, since they often don’t have a method of setting drill speed, so watch that. I have a battery-powered drill I can dial down the speed on, and my drill press also has variable speeds. While these are technically made for electricians, I think they are great for people like myself who build and modify cars. I am really happy with these cutters, and recommend them to anyone needing to cut holes in metal. Thanks Ideal, and Home Depot!

Ideal makes an exceptional product! Each cutter is made with carbide tips, which last longer than any steel competitor. The arbor is integrated into each cutter eliminating uneven cutting making for a perfectly round hole every time. As an added bonus, the integrated over-drill flange prevents the cutter from penetrating beyond the material being cut. The set includes 8-hole cutters (7/8 in., 1-1/8 in., 1-3/8 in., 1-3/4 in., 2 in., & 2-1/2 in). It also includes three extra Pilot bits, Ejection springs and an allen wrench, which fits the set screws for all bits. The well thought out hassle free time saving Ejection spring doesn’t allow material to get stuck inside the cutters cup like with most brands. Also included is a slotted sturdy plastic storage/carrying case. These cutters are most suitable to be used on Aluminum, Fiberglass, PVC, Stainless Steel, Steel, Cast Iron, Sheet Metal, and Vinyl Flooring. The shanks are 3/8 in. wide with 3-flat sides, which prevents chuck slippage. The manufacturer offers a limited lifetime warranty against defects and workmanship for as long as you own the product.
