The IMUSA tortilla press is the must have kitchen gadget for fresh homemade tortillas. The traditional and durable design of the tortilla press allows for perfectly pressed tortillas, with just the right thickness and round shape. Never buy store bought tortillas again. Making large batches of tortillas has never been easier. Just insert your ball of dough (“masa”) in between the plates and with one press, a fresh tortilla is ready for cooking.

Homemade tortillas are by far the best over store bought which are usually tough and flavorless. I was excited when I ordered this tortilla press, expecting to finally make life easier than using a rolling pin to flatten the flour dough. This product is made from cast aluminum which is a solid cast. The problem is where the handle attaches to the top plate. The casting is very thin and would not hold up to any serious downward thrust force without breaking. I suppose if you applied pressure very slowly and deliberately, a tortilla could be pressed without breaking the handle. As for me, I want to press a tortilla quickly. I will look for another heavy duty press. The rest of the unit is great, with highly polished upper and lower plate surfaces. It is also lightweight.

Love the tortilla press I got, the only thing about it is, it is not true cast iron and the handle is very light weight. I am afraid that it is gonna break during use after some time of use.

Never having owned a tortilla press before please take this review with a grain of salt. The 8″ IMUSA aluminum press works pretty well for making corn tortillas. I find you have to make two passes for thinner tortillas (rotate your tort 180 degrees after the first press). Also you have to use two pieces of parchment or plastic wrap to ensure your finished product does not stick to the press plates. I know these things are not supposed to to work for flour tortillas and guess what? This one doesn’t although it makes a great 1/4″ thick starter disc for you to finish with a rolling pin. I have concerns about longevity – the handle flexes too much when bearing down to achieve the desired +/- 1/8″ thickness. You also need a non stick mat or kitchen towel underneath to prevent marring your counter surface. The price is good compared to other 8″ presses but I don’t trust the handle to last and as far as I can tell it does not come with a warranrty

The IMUSA cast aluminum 8 inch Tortilla Press is a light weight well made press. It is very easy to use as well as easy to clean. You can use this press to make tortillas, tacos, empanadas and chalupas with this press like a pro. Do not put this press in the dishwasher for cleaning, it is very easy to clean by hand. The simplicity of this press and quality makes it a great addition to the kitchen tools.

As a family with many food allergies I make most of our food from scratch. I am always looking for time savers and tools to make this task easier. I got the Imusa Cast Aluminum 8 in. Tortilla Press to help make a number of dough based items. First about the build quality of the press it is lightweight, easy to get in out of cupboards and not bulky. The hinge and handle seem very well made and very solid. The base plates are smooth and substantial while still remaining light. Overall the build quality is definitely 5 stars. As for functionality I have made so far two dough based products using this press, corn masa tortillas and gluten free pizza crust. If you want a very thin tortilla you may need to rotate and press again but we prefer a slightly thicker tortilla. I cut a gallon size bag down the sides to use cover the base plates, this kept my dough from sticking, and made it easy to remove. The press handled both my thin corn masa tortilla dough and my gluten free pizza dough with ease. I was able to turn out tortillas very quickly and the were of equal thickness so cooking was easy and consistent. For my pizza crusts I ended up with a thick, but not too thick chewy crust that worked very well for pre-baking and freezing for future use. Again a nice equal thickness round that cooked consistently and easily. Overall I had no problems with this tortilla press and as a family that will use it frequently I am very happy to have this tool in our kitchen. I highly recommend this Imusa Cast Aluminum 8 in. Tortilla Press as a good value for money, well built, and highly useable tool for your kitchen.

Since this is cast aluminum, you have to be cautious and not use too much pressure when pressing tortillas. Overall, I think this is an adequate press and should be fine as long as you don’t try to squeeze too hard. Place your dough between sheets of waxed paper to gently form your tortillas. Nothing will stick and the presse is quite easy to clean up.

My family really liked the homemade flour tortillas I made with the cast aluminum tortilla press, but I just didn’t find that the press made the tortillas thin enough for my liking, even after 2-3 presses. I finally ended up pressing twice, then using a rolling pin to flatten it out more on the press plate. Maybe a different recipe would flatten out better, but once you remove them from the press, the elastic dough tends to shrink back and thicken up so it ends up more like 5 cm thick instead of 2-3 like I wanted. I really wanted to like it but for me it’s just ok. Since it’s aluminum, it’s lightweight, but I was afraid of pressing too hard and damaging the plate or press.
