Innova Cold Press Rough Textured Natural White Paper is an acid-free, single side coated media that has a natural white finish with a coarse structured surface similar to a traditional watercolor paper. It is designed for high quality fine art & photographic reproduction and photo restoration print applications using inkjet technology. It features excellent color gamut representation with superb color accuracy, and is compatible with both dye-based and pigment-based inks.

Rough texture is inaccuate. This is a soft smooth watercolor texture in a natural, off-white color. I tried this paper as a replacement for the rough textured Bergger PN33, which has been discontinued, but it’s much smoother than that paper, and yet quite lovely in its own right for certain applications. I tried printing some color bird and flower illustrations that I had scanned from books (with descreening filter) and the results were stunning on both my Epson Artisan 50 and Epson Pro 3880 printers. It didn’t perform quite as well with certain color photos that look better on matte papers with a hard smooth finish, so this is a paper that will be great for some applications and less so for others. But when you want a soft, smooth surface with a dimple-like watercolor texture in a heavy 315 gsm weight, this is a very good choice, and the price is suprisingly reasonable for such high quality. I also tried it with a black and white portrait that I manipulated in PhotoShop to look 100 years old, and it worked very well for that, giving a kind of photogravure look. Excellent paper to have on hand for specific applications. Note, the non-printable side has a rougher texture, and I mistakenly printed that side first, believing it must be the correct side, since they call this rough textured, but make no mistake: This is a soft smooth finish with a subtle dimple texture. And I must say for certain applications it’s outstanding.

This paper was a real surprise, far exceeding my expectations. My only complaint is that it has a bit too much texture for my taste. It is described as rough and it looks beautiful as long as it is illuminated correctly. Sidelights makes the texture distracting. Image quality is superb!

The paper is a nice weight and much more reasonable than the Moab Arches version but the color is not even close. For some paler images it may work well.

Terrific for B&W and some color applications. The Rough Textured is a little misleading as the print side of the paper is not too rough. Adds dimension to prints.

I even tried staining a print sepia brown with much-thinned oil-based wood stain, and then applied four coats of spray oil-based gloss varnish (letting each coat dry two days) and it held up really well and produced a rich deep look. This is a fun paper with some versatility and excellent quality. Give it a try.
