IOGEAR’s 2-Port USB 2.0 Automatic Printer Switch enables two PCs and / or Macs to easily share one USB printer, multi-function printer, or other USB device. This switch eliminates the need to plug and unplug devices between computers. Simply send the print job and the switch automatically makes the swap for you.
Automatic switch function is software based and only available with a USB printer or the printer function of a multi-function printer. For connecting and using other types of USB devices, you can switch by using the push-button on the USB switch or with the included software.

This works great to switch a printer between two computers. Haven’t tried installing the automatic switching software.

I bought the GUB231 in January, and have since struggled to get it seeing our HP LaserJet from both machines: our Windows 7 machine and our Mac OS X el Capitan machine. Today I got a wonderful tech at ioGear on the phone (Marco), who got the automatic feature working on the Win 7 PC, but couldn’t on the Mac. Reason: the ioGear GUB231 won’t support anything beyond OS X 10.9, despite ioGear’s literature that says Mac 8.6 or greater. Requires OS X for USB 2.0 support. Marco advised getting the GUB211 (cheaper!) which only works with printers (the 231 works with other peripherals as well), but supports up to Yosemite (OS X 10.10), and downgrading el Capitan (OS X 10.11) to Yosemite. Why can’t ioGear just provide an upgraded driver to live up to its advertised claim?!

Tried for 2 hours plus to get to work with no luck! can make it manually switch no problems but not automatically and that’s why i bought it. Needs a youtube video showing instillation

I bought the GUB231 just now in May 2019, and have since struggled to get it seeing our HP LaserJet 477fdw printing automatically from two desktops. Since IOGEAR is selling this GUB231 as an automatic switch they have to accept that customers are not very positive on this device, because it is definitely not automatic. At least, with Windows 10 you can have only one computer as default printing while the other needs to switch in an pretty antique way. The company was very responsive on my concerns…but was not able to help.

We keep this right next to the printer so when the printer is needed we switch this to the correct computer as we turn the printer on. It couldnt be easier.
