The ISPRING TDS meter is a digital instrument that measures the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), in the scale of ppm (parts per million) which indicates the amount of solid dissolved in the water. The lower the TDS, the purer the water. EPA suggests that the TDS of drinking water should be below 500 ppm. Besides the purity, water temperature also impacts TDS value. ISPRING 3-button TDS meter features 2 sensors, 1 for TDS and 1 for temperature. The CPU automatically calibrates the TDS value according to water temperature so the value is always accurate. The Measurement Range is 0 – 9990 ppm at 1 ppm precision, probably the highest in market at this size and cost. It also features a temperature button that turns it into a thermometer with measurement range of 31 – 200°F at 1° precision. So this instrument measures solids in water…yet it isn’t waterproof! That’s kind of a problem especially when you use this on a farm to measure liquid fertilizer concentration. If you are using this in a controlled environment, then yes it’s awesome. It measures as high as you could use in most circumstances. Overall it’s a good product, good price, but under no circumstances should you get the total dissolved solid water meter wet anywhere except the pins on the bottom.

Although there is temperature compensation, it seems to take a long time for that compensation to stabilize. ie. I have 3 samples of water. One I put in the fridge to about 45F, the other I heat to about 100F, and the third I leave out at rm temp about 70F. I would expect all 3 to have the same reading after max 30 sec in the sample. It takes more that 5 mins to get close, but still greater than 10% difference.

I’m not sure how accurate this unit is as I don’t have another to compare it to, but it certainly filled my need. I have a reverse osmosis drinking water system that didn’t seem to be performing properly. By testing the water with this meter I discovered that the tap water was cleaner than what I was getting from the RO unit. After changing all filters and the RO membrane I waited and retested a few days later with a marked improvement noted. It certainly took the guess work out of the equation!
