I love this machine. I bought it because it can handle several layers of denim or other heavy fabric. It sews them with ease. It is quiet and smooth. I put an LED bulb in it and now my bad eyes can see to sew perfectly.

This Janome HD100 Black Edition sewing machine is heavy-duty and of excellent quality. The machine is well suited for beginners to professionals. The owners’ manual is clear and concise. Some features noted in the short time we have been using it: the machine is very easy to thread; the bobbin can be quickly changed out, and the bobbin winder works fast; the foot pedal is very responsive; easily sews through thick material; and overall the unit is simple to learn and operate. In addition, a walking foot is included which is a real plus. The black edition coloring makes this machine a real standout in our craft room. Also included is a nice carrying case making the machine easy to transport. See attached photos. Well done Janome!

First, who knew Home Depot sells sewing machines? Well they do, which is great I think it fits the diy spirit. Second, we’re fairly crafty in our household and would consider the skill level to be a solid intermediate when coming to sewing. We first had a rock solid Kenmore machine that we have since returned to my mother. A Singer came and went. Then a Brother CS6000 which took a trip to my wifes workplace for her use (which she loves). There and now this HD1000 that has become the home use replacement. Right out of the gate it feels nice and solid and seems of high build quality. The needle threader is pretty simple to use and the reverse stitch is also very easy and makes quick work of multiple passes. There seems to be plenty of power if you’re working with heavier materials so no complaints there. In addition there are plenty of options and stitch patterns and overall things work as they should. After several projects I would say we’re comfortable using this machine however there are some drawbacks that left us feeling less excited. First, things have never felt quite intuitive enough. With other machines it was pretty easy to figure out most action items without the manual, but we found ourselves referencing the book a bit more than expected. Then oddly enough the light bulb gets really hot. Enough that it makes your work area a bit uncomfortable after awhile, that’s weird and in the time of LED’s seems unnecessary. There is no automatic bobbin stop and no thread cutter at the bobbin fill which is a bummer. As it is, the thread cutter is in a rather inconvenient spot on that back that feels out of the way to me. We have both found the speed to be a little tricky to control and the power cord, while beefy, seems like it wiggles around a bit too much. I’m not saying this is a bad machine, and quite a bit better than some lower end models. But at this price point and compared to other models we’ve used it fades a bit to the middle of the pack.

Removed the sewing machine from the packaging , read the product brochure , plugged in the unit , threaded and set the unit up for a sewing task , feed dog would not pass material for sewing , had to reread brochure , go online and reinspect the feed feature , it was set on free motion or darning , had to reset a slide trigger to correct feed , had it not been for that online troubleshooting tip , I would have returned the product due to a material feed malfunction , this new sewing machine from the factory should have been set up to straight sew without all of the drama incurred .

A pretty incredible machine. It has a metal frame, which keeps vibration down and gives you a firm base to work on, but it isn’t anywhere near as heavy as my wife’s old Singer. It has enough features to do all of the standard things, plus some fancy things, including quilting and stretch stitches and hemming cuffs. But it is still very easy to figure out without referring to the book a lot. In three months of use it has not bound up or failed in any way, and the auto threader is fun to play with (see video). The instructions are well written, if you do need to go through them, which we did when installing the walking foot for quilting. It is quiet and there’s very little vibration from it. I’ve read some reviews where people had trouble right out of the box, but our experience has been pretty much flawless, so I have no problem recommending it unreservedly. So, everyone asks, why is it black? I’ve looked on the company web site and the only thing it says there is that it is a special edition. So what? Well, from experience, it is actually very easy on the eyes. Thread and fabric and fixtures and needles are almost all light-colored, so the dark body color of this machine makes a good contrast.A couple of people have asked about the brand, but when they hear that it is the parent company for New Home it helps to fill in the background. Overall a very sturdy and feature-filled tool that should last the rest of my wife’s sewing days.

sometimes when you stop and sew stop and sew the machine gets stuck and you have to turn the knob to get the machine to continue sewing other than that its a good machine only had it a month so might need more time to make another review.

Runs so quite. I love it.

I really like this machine. It’s really a strong machine. Runs very very I mean very smooth. It is not picky about fabric at all. FABRIC does NOT GET STUCK ON Dog feedS LIKE my old singer did. I’ve read other reviews about jamming consistently. If you dont tread the machine correctly it WILL JAM, but what other machine doesnt jam? I was worried but I’m very happy I took the chance with this machine. It heavy duty, I love the simple easy stitches. I don’t have trouble sewing through very thin fabric or jeans. I would recommend this machine to anyone. I suggest the buyer to read the instructions and practice threading the machine. Once you have that set, I promise you, you are going to LOVE THIS WELL MADE MACHINE. I want to thank Home Depot for quick in store pickup. They took care of my machine. Box wasn’t mistreated. I love janome and Home Depot.

Worked like a charm, operates smoothly. Needle threader actually works well. I have some upholstery work to do, bought this for the project since it came with leather needles and a walking foot. A test project with some challenging thickness in places turned out well. Good purchase.

I have never ordered anything from Home Depot but it was a quick and easy experience. I was very excited for this machine and it came in several days earlier than expected. Everything is great with the machine. I’m sure Home Depot just ordered it from Janome but the machine did not come in a shipping box. It merely was wrapped with see through plastic wrap, so everybody could see the product. This and the pound of dirt and dust on the product box still highly bothers me. I’m not sure who to blame but please ship your items in a standard box.

I have done enough sewing to know I’m glad my wife loves to sew. I got her a Singer 31 yrs ago that has be in the shop more times than it was ever worth. It never worked very good with jeans weight material. She just spent an hour on this sleek, cool looking, black Janome HD-1000. And, hemmed up 3 pairs of her women’s jeans. I watched her try out all the different stitches with very good success and high satisfaction. My wife had many good words to say about this sewing machine. I read through the owners manual and found it easy to follow. Our biggest complaint is the dim work light which is listed as 15 watts. Maybe an LED replacement will be available. This machine has a cast aluminum body and framework. At about 17 lbs it is far more stable and sturdy than almost all the other plastic machines in this $350 price range. The motor is rated at 1.0 amp at 120 volts with the incandescent bulb at 15 watts that’s a total of 135 watts power usage. I plan to see many boxes of projects finished now because my wife says this is a fun and easy machine to use. The kit includes the basics to start sewing and has needles for garment leather too. The hard dust hood will help protect the machine in the closet and when transporting.

Replaces a fabulous 60 + year old Necchi Supernova….an Italian machine that rivaled any Ferrari in pure quality. It finally died. This Janome feels and acts very similar. i am happy with it. I doubt it will last 60+ years but neither will I.
