Overall a good drill press. A lot of casting shavings were found throughout during assembly. Should have used better v-belts, the ones on it caused too much vibration so bought aftermarket ones to replace them. Spent a lot of time shopping around and this still is about the best you’ll find for the money

I am so glad I waited ’til I could afford a really good drill press and THIS IS IT! I could not be happier with this machine! It is strong, sturdy, a great table, comes with a 3/4″ chuck… It really is a GREAT machine. I can’t say anything bad about it; I just love it!

I did a ton of research into drill presses before settling on the JDP-20MF. I looked at Clausing, JET, Powermatic, Ellis, Grizzly, Knuth, mill/drills… you name it. In the end it came down to the fact that really anything over this price point would be better spent on a mill for vastly improved versatility and precision. However, I couldn’t justify the cost, size, or learning curve of getting a mill. That said, I have been really happy with this JET. It came well packaged and undamaged. Some of the castings are a bit rough, but much better than the WEN 4214 12-Inch Drill Press I had previously purchased (and returned). I have measured runout and will get to that shortly. My only real complaint with the machine is that the table surface grind is fairly rough. It is flat though and I suppose the texture helps give some friction to the item being drilled. The holy grail for drill presses is runout of the arbor, chuck, and quill. I’m happy to report (at least on my machine) that runout of all three is +/- 0.001 in. When manually turning the pulleys, the runout on the arbor (just above the chuck) is 0.000″. It does not move the needle on my gauge a noticeable amount. The same goes for the inside of the quill surface (before I mounted the arbor/chuck)… 0.000″. That doesn’t mean there’s ZERO runout there, it just means I don’t have the equipment to measure it any more precisely. I have included a video that shows this with the machine running at 150 RPM. It’s not advised to take precise measurements with it running, but I was curious. 🙂 Even with it running, the measurement is still around 0.0005″ and much of that is probably just vibration induced.I also tested the runout on the chuck, using both a 1/2″ Irwin drill bit and a 1/2″ steel reamer blank that I got from MSC (which has a diameter tolerance of +0.0002). That runout measures right at 0.001″ on my gauge.

Limited review after only assembly and one job drilling holes in 1/4″ plate, soft steel. I’m a newbie to drill presses so consider that point to start. Unit is strong and well made, and it drilled the holes I needed very well. It also seems to have a failsafe: when I finished drilling a hole and didn’t let up on the pressure soon enough, the drill bit got caught in the mostly, but not fully drilled through metal, and jammed. Rather than damaging the machine, it simply stopped drilling at that moment, and when I pulled the drill bit out of the plate, it worked again as if nothing had happened.I did have one ugly problem with assembly, which Jet subsequently fixed by having a local repair person come out and resolve the issue. The worktable came pre-assembled to the table bracket – unlike the directions which called for the user to assemble these two pieces on the post. During this pre-assembly process the factory folks jammed the locator pin into the table so that I was unable to remove it. The pin is only removed if the user wants to tilt the table, so I was initially able to assemble the whole unit, do my drilling job which only needed a flat table, and then when the repair tech came by he was able to somehow work that pin free. So all fixed now and I have the future ability to tilt that table if needed. Jet tech support was very professional and helpful over the phone, they get 5 stars for their responsiveness and resolution for the problem.

Easy to set up.Very heavy need 2 people.Make sure clean arbor and chuck..First time I used alcohol and arbor came off.So did some research and used acetone. That solved it.Stopper works great.Table is very big. Also used 5/16 T Bolts to hold drill press vise.

Very well made drill press. Lots of power with a 1-1/2 HP motor. Big drill bit size with a 3/4-inch chuck. Huge table allows for big pieces to be drill.

The drill press is really good quaility and I am very impressed with it

Assembly took longer than anticipated as instructions/diagrams could be written more clearly and it took two people. Parts are well protected and coated with a protective oil or mechanical grease. Operation is smooth & quiet. Found small hairline crack in black face plate around On/Off Switch.

The table adjustment screw could be better. The table occasionally drops 1/4″ hard when lowering.

Definitely a two man job to assemble. It’s an outstanding piece of kit for the shop.

It took 3 people to stand it up which is good because is heavy duty, heavier then my Grizzly band saw. I bolted it to the floor to make it sturdy. I rewired to 230v like my band saw which it gave a lot more power. I never had jet tools before that so I don’t know much about them but it has good reviews. $200 more than Grizzly, $400 more than Craftsman so I hope is worth it.

While I am not a machinist or woodworker, I believe that this drill press is well made. It does take two men to assemble.

Decent quality for price. Milling machine would be next choice. Wish it was variable speed down to 40rpm.
