I had another planer from another manufacturer, that cost about half of what this one did. It was yellow. After it went in for warranty work 4 times within a year, I decided that it had to go. I purchased this JET and have been very pleased. The assembly went pretty good, but it does take some effort to get it dialed in. The manual is very helpful in telling you how to make all of the adjustments. I have only used this as a planer and not a shaper, but I am satisfied with this tool. In the past 1 1/2 years I have upgraded several tools and most of the upgrades are JET products. The ones from Jet are a band saw. combo belt/disc sander, dust collector, this planer and added an air filter system. They all cost more than the old stuff, all were money well spent

I have had this unit for a few years now and have run hundreds of board feet through it. Construction is heavy duty and well made and in general I am pleased with blade life and the accuracy of the cut. My only complaint at this point would be that it does not hold thickness settings. Vibration causes the thickness handle to drift to a thicker cut. I have to hold the handle to keep it from moving on each cut. I see no adjustment to correct this so I just make do… FYI, measured start up current on this unit is about 80Amps. I will run fine on a 20 Amp circuit. But if your 20amp breaker has any weakness at all it will trip off…j
