Introducing the new JET JDP-17, 17 Drill Press. From a full 5 of spindle travel to the sturdy cast iron head with a poly v-belt drive system, this drill press is designed to perform. This drill press also features a long-lasting, built-in LED work light to provide direct lighting while reducing shadows. A large 14 in. x 19 in. work table provides plenty of support with an edge designed for easy clamping.

Not too sure why the people at jet think it’s OK to pack a 300 pound drill with coffee cup thickness Styrofoam. Not my first jet purchase and it’s all packed the same. Home Depot as always they are courteous, friendly, helpful, and I could use my charge to spread the payments out. Order online and they deliver it to your store easy peezy.

The overall quality is very good but wouldn’t buy again because th depth adjustment is difficult and over complicated. Requires turning a knob that is too narrow and stiff so that you easily turn the depth ring and have to start all over again. Very disappointing for an otherwise good machine.

Although it is my first purchase ever of a drill press, I thoroughly researched the products of the competitors, and found the Jet JDP-17 to have attributes that outweigh those of most other competitively priced drill presses, including overall weight and sturdiness, size and flexibility of the work table, a good built-in work light, and a laser guide that accurately pinpoints the point of contact between the work piece and the bit. The belt system and guide make changing speeds very easy to accomplish. Assembly of the press was not difficult, other than managing the placement of the head unit on the post(definitely a two-man job). The unit did arrive with two damaged pieces; The plastic cover for the belt drive had a small chip out of it, and the plastic cover for the spring-operated quill return had a broken flange. A call to JDP Industries rectified that, and replacement parts were shipped out same day. Good customer service!
