Introducing the newly designed JET JWDS-1836 Drum Sander from JET. The 1.75 horsepower motor delivers plenty of power to handle just about any sanding task. The innovative tool-less parallelism system keeps adjustments simple. The worktable is easily positioned by a turn of the parallelism dial. The variable-speed rate permits you to choose the optimal feed rate for a full range of projects, while the Sandsmart feature continuously monitors the load on the drum motor to prevent an overload situation. The mirrored design of the dust hood optimizes dust collection preventing chips and dust from getting between your work-piece and the finish. The JWDS-1836 Drum Sander delivers everything you need for an effortless finish.

- Conveyor bed parallelism is easily adjusted by turning the dial on the outside of the bed – no tools required

So far so good. The sander is easy to set up and adjust. This is my first open end sander, and I am wondering why I didn’t get one sooner. I do wish infeed and outfeed extensions came with the sander. They seem to be over priced when bought after the fact. Sand paper is easier to install then other drums I have owned. Unless you are doing heavy production this sander will meet your needs.

First of all, I don’t know why I didn’t buy it sooner. I wouldn’t know what to do without it now, 36 inches of sanding covers all my needs. The stand was very easy to put together, I added casters so I can move it around when needed. It’s very quiet when running you can’t hear it running, very low hum and that’s it. When sitting the drum sander on the stand, use an extra person to help lift it from the box to the stand. I did it by myself, If I was to do it again I would have help. I bought 6 boxes of different grit wraps, they was easy to find and easy to change out wraps on the drum, only takes a minute. You will need a dust collection system for it a shop vac just won’t cut it. I hooked up an 1100 cfm system to mine and after I use it there is no sanding dust to be found anywhere in my shop.

Really cuts down the time it takes with sanding. You never have to worry about if your project is level. My only negative comment is that at this time the only place to get the correct replacement sanding belt is through Jet website. There will be more options in the future I’m sure, but for now Jet is the only place to get the correct ones.
