This was the first time I cut stair stringers, the gauges really made the job easier. The only reason for 4 stars is because they come off the square fairly easy.

A must have item for anyone building a deck with stairs. Used them to lay out replacement stairs for a deck remodel. Why pay big bucks (about $42 per 7 step stringer) for pre-fab stair stringers that probably won’t fit exactly anyway? For less than three bucks and the cost of a 2X12 ($18 for an 8 foot board that will make most 7 step stringers), you can outfit any carpenter’s square with these gauges that make measuring and cutting easy and practically fool proof. Sure, it takes a little planning to have the rise and run turn out perfectly, but that’s something you would never be able to achieve with pre-fab stringers and it’s really no more work to build stringers that fit right than it is to modify off-the-shelf stringers that will need to be modified anyway.

Okay , but thumb screws have coarse loose threading, gages come loose on framing square easily
