Designed for notebooks, desktops, and digital devices, the 256GB Data Traveler 100 G3 USB 3.0 Flash Drive from Kingston is a portable flash memory storage device for storing and transferring documents, presentations, music, videos, and more in home, work, and school environments. Built with a USB 3.0 Type-A interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, the Data Traveler 100 G3 features read speeds of up to 130 MB/s and is compatible with USB 2.0. As an alternative to an easy-to-lose cap, its USB Type-A connector is protected by a sliding mechanism that covers it when the drive isn’t in use.
Kingston’s Data Traveler 100 G3 USB 3.0 Flash Drive is compatible with Windows 10, 8.1, 8, and 7 (SP1), macOS 10.10 and later, Linux 2.6.x and later, and Chrome. Protection is provided by a limited 5-year warranty with free technical support.

I used this as a recovery media for a Windows 10 workstation. It worked perfectly, was fast enough for my applications, but the sliding cover does not work very smoothly. That feature seems functional, but not impressive. Overall a good value. For more intensive use, I’d prefer something with a more substantial USB cover mechanism.

I picked this thumb drive form mostly aesthetic reasons. I wanted the most plain, square, solid color thumb drive to deliver to files to a client in a tasteful display. There is logo printing on both sides of the drive but otherwise it is a good design for this reason where most other drives I found were strange shapes, colors, or finishes. Otherwise the drive seems to function as expected with reasonably fast transfer speeds.

Need to be more business competitive and updated in pricing, especially near major holidays where consumers are willing to spend money. products’ quality is ok, but pricing need to be more competitive before losing business to other stores. Disappointed with this flash drive because of its size and speed. The drive’s case is so large that I can’t have it and another USB device plugged into my laptop (Macbook, 13 Late 2007) at the same time. I would assume anyone with horizontally aligned USB ports would experience the same problem. The drive appears slim enough on the top and bottom to fit with other devices on a machine with vertically aligned USB ports (e.g., desktop), although it might be a very tight fit. I haven’t tested the drive with USB 3.0 yet, but I’ve included the speed test results from USB 2.0 below: USB 2.0 Blackmagic Disk Speed Test (5 GB stress) Write: 6.0 MB/s Read: 36.0 MB/s Overall, the drive feels quite cheap. While the sliding design is convenient, the excessive size and bulk of the case make this flash drive a major hassel to use. I recommend spending a bit more money to get a flash drive with a slimmer, sleeker case and better speed. I will update this review when I test the drive with USB 3.0.

The Kingston flash drive, after being plugged in, caused my Windows 10 computer to act like the hard drive had failed. I tried one more time and tried to format the flash drive. That effort failed and once again the computer went into an equivalent hard drive failure shutdown. I notified B&H of my experience and they immediately offered a refund, which I accepted. I later discovered that only the cost of the flash drive was refunded. I was charged the cost to ship a defective product to me.
