Title tells the story. When the Kitchenaid model 1209OB is not leaking from the reservoir base, it makes great tasting coffee. I found many online reviews stating similar about this and other Whirlpool (parent company) models with removable tanks.What we’ve done is to keep the base of the tank and the mating surface dry, then put the empty reservoir in place and very slowly fill the tank while attached so as not to shift the tank even slightly, or it will start leaking fast. Using this method, we’ll see leaking maybe only twice per week and we use it every morning, twice on Sunday.There is a Whirpool safety recall for several models, but this (by serial number) was not one of them. I suspect a faulty base tank seal, and am considering permanently fixing the tank to the base with epoxy.My review scores are based on each aspect in the review categories. For example, it’s very easy to use, so 5 out of 5 for that, but a leaking base can be a safety hazard since it leaks into the ocmpartment with the electronics, so for Design category it gets a two from me. I think this problem could be fixed with a longer plastic tube going down, into the base, with two silicon O-Ring seals, one to seat the base of the tube within the water intake, and another near the midpoint of the tube ltself to help keep water from exiting the base.

Love that the coffee maker was so ready to use from taking it out of the box. I am able to set the timer and have fresh coffee when I wake up every morning. The water tank is removable and fits nicely in sink to fill. Love the bold coffee setting and the evenness of the coffee coming out from the sprinkler head.

Looks GOOD, on counter, coffee is not hot but does have a nice strong flavor. Would have preferred a metal heating plate that pot sits on. Love the way pot is made very durable. Worth the extra money.
