Very basic stripper tool that is easy to use. Just what I was looking for.

Those of us that have been in the electrician business for a while can use this, without the stop screw, and not nick the wire. This requires being able to feel the blade go through the insulation. Tougher with THHN but certainly doable. This requires smooth, slick (blued) blades with just the right tension in the hinge. Klein and Miller are the only companies making this tools in high quality; the rest are painted (sticky), soft metal, garbage. I re-sharpen mine; been using the same tool for years. On newer ones, I do replace the hinge rivet with an adjustable, hardened metal, nut and bolt.

The screw that adjust the depth of cut was sealed tight with paint.

I have been using these wire strippers for over thirty years now and what I like about them is that they are small and light-weight, not spring loaded so when you put them in your toolbox they take up less space. You can open them all the way around and use them to cut the tape on packages. The most important feature is the small hole on the business end which is in the perfect spot for putting a loop in the wire for wrapping around a screw on an outlet or switch. The slight curve on the inside of the handles make these a lot more comfortable that the cheap brands that are just straight. Once you master how to grip these, you can learn to “feel” when they just cut thru the insulation of the wire which makes it easy to strip wires of different sizes and not having to look for the proper groove. I have used most every other style and brand out there and always prefer these hands down.

Made in USA, high quality product – this is the stripper w/o the hold open spring. This review is being written 3/5/2017 for the Klein Tools Wire Stripper-Cutter – Solid and Stranded Wire, model #1003 (no hold-open spring). If you want the model with the hold-open spring, purchase #1004 instead. This is a compact tool that does require some skill to use. By applying the right amount of closing pressure on the grips, you can strip insulation for varying wire sizes. An adjustable stop can be used if you are repeatedly stripping a single wire size. Cutters are integral in the handle as well. So far, Klein continues to source this particular tool from the USA, and the quality remains top notch.

Great wire stripper. I had one like this for years, but I lost it and needed to replace the item.
