These drill taps provide easy tapped holes in thin materials. They are not intended for thick or extremely hard materials. I usually operate in my M12 Milwaukee screwdriver set on #1(low) speed, use the screwdriver clutch set on lowest number which will permit the tap to stall occasionally and apply a light oil (WD-40 or LPS-1) or tapping fluid if available. Lube provides a smoother thread & prolongs tool life. Hint: place lube in a bottle cap & discard when job is done.

A very nice set of the common size threads for electrical jobs – with all in one bit that drills the hole and cuts the thread in one operation.

The 8-piece drill tap tool kit works very well. I have used the 1/4-20 drill tap in brass and it does a great job. I tried the same drill tap in plastic sheet and I got some sharp threads. A bolt goes right in. I have used many tap and die sets and this makes small jobs much easier and faster. I think there is a lot of professions that could take advantage of these.

This Klein Drill Tap Tool Kit will make my life much easier, as an electrical contractor.I’ve always used your standard tap and tap handle to make threaded holes when needed in electrical boxes, circuit breaker panels and other metal enclosures. There were several issues that often made it a hassle, among them: not having the correct size drill bit for the particular tap; not having the correct tap and drill bit together with the handle at the time needed; often finding the tap not long enough to get down into where you need it. Klein has solved those issues with this set.I tried several of these on the job, and all of them at home some on various items. They worked flawlessly, and were a joy to use. Using them in my 12-volt 1/4″-hex impact driver, as they all have the necessary ball-detent groove, the process is lightning-quick. They drill, tap and de-burr the hole in a matter of a couple of seconds, and, as we all know – on the job, time is money. I also love that I am able to use them in any standard 1/4″-hex extension. This set includes all of the most common size machine threads used in the electrical trade, including a spare of each of the two smallest sizes. The drill taps are stamped HSS, as being made of high-speed steel, as quality taps are. This product is made in China.

To bad it was not made in the USA. But I hope that Kline put thier name on it So we will see how good it is.

As others have mentioned, more “throat” between the drill bit and the tap section would be a big help. However, when drilling and tapping hollow aluminum shape-stock I might have run into trouble if the tool had been long enough to reach across to the other side, so the compactness was a help.

This is the first time I’d ever heard of a drill/tap combination set, so I figured I’d try them out. I wasn’t sure how well these would work, but after a few uses, I’m pretty impressed.I’ve used these on some hard plastic and aluminum, and they left pretty good looking threads on both. It’s nice being able to produced tapped holes with a single step. There’s even a deburring section a the top of the bit.The only disappointment was that these can only handle material that’s about 1/8″ to 3/16″ thick. I suppose that’s to keep the user from breaking their wrist if the drill kicks back, since the thicker the material the more threads will be in it at a time. So torque required is limited by making them only work on thinner material. If you’re in a profession that requires lots of tapped holes in sheet metal, then this set will be a huge time saver. Klein seems to have manufactured these with their usual high quality standards, so I’d expect them to hold up pretty well too.

This is a very well-made tap drill kit. Quality that you would expect out of Klein.Out of the box, it is a very nice kit. I have had cheaper tap drill kits before, and the bigger sizes usually wore out from rattling loose in whatever container that they came in before I got much good use out of them. The carrying case is sturdy plastic, and the bit holders are a nice grippy rubber. I do not see the bits shaking out of their respective places. The tap drills are very sharp as well. The edges feel almost as sharp as a knife, and you can tell that they went through a very nice grinding sequence to get them to this point. That being said, they work well. They work very well. I tested them on oak, birch plywood, ebony wood, 6061 aluminum plate, 6061 aluminum extrusion (of the 80/20 variety), plate steel, square tube steel, and galvanized steel. They worked very well in all materials, with regards to what was being tapped for a screw, i.e. steel did not drill through as fast as oak. There is one big issue with this though. The actual drilling part of the tool on all tap sizes is about 3/16″. Counting the angled tip of the drill, it is almost a 1/4″, but not quite. What matters is the smooth drill shank, that brings the hole to proper size, BEFORE the tap function begins. What this means is that the maximum material these bits can work on is 3/16″ thick. For anything bigger than that, you MUST drill the appropriate drill. If the material is thicker than the smooth shank of the drilling portion, then the tapping function feeds the bit faster than the drill point can create space, and thus, something will break. What breaks depends on the material. Maybe it only ruins the threading, maybe it ruins the tap drill. I was really hoping that these bits would make it so that I don’t have to bring appropriate alphabet size drills.Trying to drill tap 1/4 thick steel in one little bit for 6-32 or 8-32 is unreasonable, but it is not for 1/4-20. There is a LOT of 1/4″ steel plating, tubes, etc out there. More than 3/16 walled stuff. That little bit of extra drill on the larger sizes would have been REALLY nice to have, and it makes these bits a little bit of a downer for me. Most of the time I know when I will be doing something in 1/4″ plus, but because of those oddball situations, I still need my alphabet tap drills for pilot holes. I still highly recommend them, as they seem like they will perform for a very, very long time. Especially if you work in mostly thinner stock metals, such as electrical boxes.

Drills, taps, and deburrs holes in one shot. VERY effective.Standard 1/4″ hex drive. Very nice case keeps your bits together and un-dinged.Klein is a leader in Electricians’ Tools, and this is a real bonus for fast neat electrical work.Note that most electrician work is with medium gauge sheet steel. Klein rates this tool for up to #10 gauge steel (about 0.14″). Of course it will tap thinner stuff but how much of a hold can you get in say car-body gauge? Thicker stuff risks breaking the tap. The rather short pilot drill discourages going into thick stuff; if you try to force it, the tap and drill bind-up and break. Yes, plastics or woods are easier to tap, but if much over 0.15″ you should pre-drill a nearly full size through-hole before you put this tool in.

What an innovative idea. Designed for aluminum, brass, copper, plastic and mild steel these bits work great.I am currently renovating two 100 plus year old homes. I received this bit set just before I began updating the electrical. Broken outlets and switches, junction boxes with missing cover plates and broken mortise locks, you name it these places suffer from it. All the threaded holes are caked with layer after layer of paint and many of them were cross-threaded. Normally, to repair these I would choose an over-sized tap then have to lookup the proper clearance hole size for the drill bit. No more. The tips of these bits bore the correct size clearance hole, the middle cuts the new threads and the base deburrs the hole. I LOVE IT. Chuck up one bit and complete the job in seconds.Klein includes eight bits in six of the most used sizes and duplicates of the two smaller ones which are easily broken if you get too rambunctious. The convenient plastic carry case fits nicely in a pocket of my tool bag and protects the bits from damage. This is a great product and I applaud Klein for their ingenuity.

I don’t have to tap too often, but when I do, this Klein tap kit is perfect. Contains all the common sizes plus two 8-32 (awesome b/c these can break and/or get lost). All of the drill-taps come with quick connects; which connects quickly with a tap handle or a quick connect drill. Taps can be tricky at high speed, so use caution if you’re not tapping by hand. The case contains some empty spots for additional taps or a tap handle.

I used one of the taps recently on one of my old Powermatic wood lathe’s electrical boxes. I needed to add a grounding screw. I’ve always tapped slowly and by hand so I was a bit apprehensive about this working well. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performed. I got a little skating at first because I was too lazy to punch a starting point, but even in a driver (not a drill) this worked great. In fact, I WOULD be nervous about using this in a drill unless care were taken to not go too fast. It took a single pass through. Put it in reverse and backed it out. BAM! The ground screw threaded in effortlessly.Obviously, you must need the various sized tools for this set to be worth buying. Personally, the 10/32 is a slam dunk in my electrical tool box, but I’m not sure that I’ll use the others very often. I wish they sold these individually, but I don’t see that on the website. The only reason I’m taking one star off for value is that any time you bundle any sort of tool it will “mostly” apply to most people, while rarely being perfect for anyone. But of course, that’s just my opinion. The quality seems to be excellent, as expected with any Klein product.

Easy to use great quality. I do wish the cover snap closed better. But other than that great drill tap set

Items were returned because they were no longer needed. We actually discovered that Dewalt makes the bits, also, and they were available at our local home depot. No only that, but the local store also had the same item in metric sizes. The only difference was the kit had a plastic case while the Dewalt was loose.
