The Klein Tools 1/4″ Drill Tap worked very nicely. My husband used it with his Rigid battery operated drill. It fit just fine into the drill. He used it to tap a screw in the door frame of the screen room door. It worked quickly and efficiently. The drill bit is well made . It is very solid. When he used the drill bit, it did not create any metal shavings or metal spurs. He was very satisfied with with Klein Tools drill tap and we would definitely recommend it. It is the type of tool you don’t need until you need it! Nice to just have on hand!

Works great. Pretty standard tap for the most part. I like the fact that the the shank is not round but fits into a 3/8 drill chuck nicely without the potential to slip. Drills a Nice 1/4 – 20 hole and bolt threads fine enough. Quality seems great and is still sharp after a few uses. I’d recommend this and plan to buy the same one in a few other sizes.

I got this for a future project, still in the planning stage. The suggested use is for 10 gauge metal which is equal to 0.094 or 3/32 inch thick. The material I am planning on using is somewhat thicker so for this review I pushed that recommendation rather hard. Quick summary, it was a total success. Using a Bosch 12 volt drill I drilled and taped. 3/32 steel angle which is the recommended weight. Then 1/8 inch aluminum angle and finally 3/16 steel bar stock. Unfortunately I don’t have any ¼ inch thick material or I would have tried that. I am quite sure it would have worked just fine. My thoughts and recommendations : The drill point needs to completely exit the material to clear chips for the tap. Do not use a drill press as you need real low RPMs for the tap procedure. In thick steel stock it would help to pre-drill with a small bit using a drill press or some kind of a bit guide. You must keep the bit perfectly perpendicular to the stock otherwise you get a loose fit. This bit should also be good for plastic or hardwood.

First, there were no instructions with the bit. Should I use it in a drill, on low speed, no idea from what was given on the packaging. I figured I’d give it a try on a Milwaukee M-12 drill on low speed. I first tried it on 1/8″ steel flat stock and then 3/16″ with a dab of cutting oil. It seemed to drill fine but upon the drill potion exiting the material, the bit grabbed and pulled the tap through. OK, it didn’t break the tap or the drill. Tried the same thing on high speed same thing happened. Then I threaded in a screw. The result in both cases was a loose fit, The screw wiggled back and forth not creating the mechanical holding power I would expect from a 1/4-20 fastener. After just two holes the drill portion showed signs of damage. In a few of the pictures I included you can see the damage under only a magnifying glass. I’ve used another brand of these drill/taps and found none of these problems. Buy the other yellow color bit.

I have always wanted one these drill taps to see if they really did work or not. This 1/4-20 is the most common size that I would ever use and being able to use it in my 1/4 impact driver was all the better! As usual, Klein tools did not disappoint. I was able to begin a project put off far too long and it came together very nicely and with ease! Would definitely recommend this for smaller projects needing fastening bolts.

If you have ever drilled and tapped a hole you know that first you have to drill the hole and you have to have the correct size drill bit for the tap you are using. Too small a hole and you risk braking the tap which is never good. Well with this handy tool you have both the drill and the tap in one bit and of coarse the drill is the proper size. Now I wouldn’t reccomend using this for all your tapping needs, but for certain jobs it works great and is a real time saver. I would reccomend setting the clutch on your drill just to be on the safe side and also use a drill and tqapping fluid. When I first got this I tried it out on a piece of angle iron and it worked great .

Kline Tools 1/4-20 drill tap tool is a great idea. It is 3 tools in one. The drill tip is the proper size for the 1/4-20 tap that follows and then deburr the hole for the finish. The tang is 1/4 inch hex that fits in the quick connect on my impact driver. I would only recommend this tool be used with a variable speed drill for best control. The tool is designed to be used on up to 10 gauge steel. For use on aluminum, brass, copper, mild steel and plastic. A real time saver not having to switch tools to do the job.
