An excellent execution of a great idea. Usually, if one is using a stubby driver, it is because space is limited as is, usually, visibility. The choices are either remove the driver from the screw and re-index it, or….keep the driver in contact with the hardware and loosen one’s (already probably tenuous) grip to re-index you fingers on the handle. With the ratchet function, selected by an easy to use twist ring, one can maintain their grip and contact with the hardware until the screw is fully seated or fully removed. It ratchets either clockwise or couterclockwise (anti-clockwise if you are working on an MG). A middle, “locked” position is also provided to use the driver as a conventional non-ratcheting tool. The rubber-like grip is comfortable and nicely proportioned. In addition to the two (each) sizes of flat blade and cross-head screw drivers, 1/4″ and 5/16 inch hex heads may be driven using the receiver sleeve for the screw driver bits. Manufactured in Taiwan, the quality of all the component parts appears high with proper fit and function.

The driver works fine , it isn’t anything special by any means. I would like it to have an easier ability to switch the ratcheting,so you can change the direction with the single hand as your using it .

The ratcheting driver is about a quarter inch longer than the none ratcheting version but better in tight areas where clearance is met bc the driver doesnt have to come off of the screw to remove or tighten it and makes one handed work very easy. This driver is very durable and easy to switch rotation one handed and in tight areas. I own both version of this tool and the ratcheting is my favorite as long as the quarter inch isnt an issue for spacing

I have misplaced my trusty old (25 yr old) 1/4 inch magnetic bit stubby that I used mostly for recessed can lights. So, off to the depot to get a Klein “6 in 1” cushion grip stubbie to try. While I was in the electrical tool isle, I noticed this ratcheting version which Klein just came out with so I decided to give it a try. WOW!!!!! WOW WOW!!!!!! I love this stubbie! The slot/ philips bits appear to be nicely heat treated and very strong and the two built in 1/4 and 5/16 inch nut drivers are just right for removing the screws in most 4 and 6 inch recessed lighting cans. I read a tool review somewhere online about this stubbie driver and the reviewer said that the hex in the handle itself is 7/16 inch so this can be used as a 7/16 nut driver also! A “7 in 1” stubbie driver! Sturdy ratcheting mechanism with almost no “ slop” in the action. The included bits have the “detent ball” type of bit retention with no magnets. I prefer this style over the magnetic type I had before. You can use “ANY” 1/4 inch hex bits with this stubbie driver, but bits without ball detents will just fall out so you must be careful not to drop them. My old magnetic stubbie would always attract metal shavings up inside the 1/4 inch hex hole which were a real pain to “pick” out all the time. A++++ tool. Klein, great design!
