For cutting copper wire up to 600 MCM and aluminum wire up to 750 MCM, use the Klein Tools Ratcheting Cable Cutter. This cutter features a hold-open spring that allows for rapid cutting while the quick-release lever permits the blade to open as the tool is being used. This premium hand tool is made in Germany.

I have been using a pair of these cable cutters for the last 14-15 years SAME PAIR ! The small lever that allows you to lock them in a closed position broke off years ago, but that is the only week spot. I work in the power line industry building high voltage transmission lines. These cutters ride in a tool board exposed to sun, rain, dirt and everything else you can throw at them. As long as they get a squirt of oil occasionally, they function like new. My pair is rusty and beat up from years of use. I can only imagine how long they would last if taken care of and stored in a tool box or bag . The Klein brand has outlasted many pairs of Greenlee brand ratcheting cable cutters purchased by coworkers. The only downside to this tool is that I paid $175.00 when I purchased mine. They have come up in price since then. Still WELL worth the cost if you cut cable, stranded copper or even rope on a regular basis.

This tool is worth it’s weight in gold! Easily cuts SE cable (4/0-4/0-2/0 AL) one handed and very little effort. It makes a very clean cut through entire cable. I highly recommend this tool for anyone doing electrical service work. Leverage cutters are for young guys, these are great for us older guys.

I love this tool for cutting bigger wire. They really don’t make you work hard on trying to squeeze down on them. They are a very strong tool and i would recommend them to any one working with heavier wire.
