These screwdrivers are an excellent choice for any precision work you have to do there’s only one problem with them… keeping your coworkers from trying to abscond with them.

I work professionally reviewing computers and consumer electronics, so I was very excited to try out this 5-piece electronics screwdriver set. Here’s what it includes:- 1/16″ flathead with 2″ shaft and 3.5″ handle- 3/32″ flathead with 3″ shaft and 3.5″ handle- #0 Philips with 3″ shaft and 3.5″ handle- 1/8″ flathead with 4″ shaft and 3.5″ handle- 1/8″ flathead with 6″ shaft and 3.5″ handleAfter getting a chance to test this kit out, I’m just not sure who it’s made for. Here are my concerns:(1) This kit doesn’t have magnetic tips. For anyone who works on small electronics in tight spaces, this is a critical flaw. Perhaps Klein Tools is concerned that magnetic tips could damage some sensitive electronics, but for the products I work on, it’s of no concern.(2) There’s only one Phillips head screwdriver. That’s very surprising, given that most electronics use Philips screws, not flathead screws. If anything, I’d say this is more of a “jeweler’s” screwdriver set, not an electronics set.(3) The length of the screwdriver handles changes with the size of the tip. This doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t necessarily need more reach for larger screws, and these types of screws just don’t need extreme torque – we’re talking about very small screws, even with the largest screwdriver in this set. In fact, that large flathead screwdriver is so long (at 9.5″) that I can’t imagine it working at all without a magnetic tip. If you need this much reach, it’s almost certainly because the screw must be affixed where your fingers can’t reach.(4) There are two 1/8″ flatheads. Yes, indeed, out of the five screwdrivers in this set, two are the same size, simply with different length shafts, but as I mentioned above, extra-long shafts don’t make any sense in my work, and I’d be surprised if most people need a 9.5″-long 1/8″ flathead. If you do, you’d just buy that screwdriver on its own, because it offers too little control for most applications.(5) The included case is really too big for a mini screwdriver set, which is in part due to the extreme length of the extra-long 9.5″ screwdriver in this set.The saving grace of this kit is that it’s made in the USA, and being from Klein Tools, the tips will likely maintain their shape over extended use, which is a serious problem with most cheap mini screwdrivers, which I’ve bent and even cracked over the years. Tiny blades need to be crafted well to stand up to a lot of use.But that gets me to the very last issue: price. This set is incredibly expensive at about $10 per screwdriver. Given that the assortment of screwdrivers isn’t ideal, I think most people would be better off buying just the one or two screwdrivers they really want rather than buying this entire set.
