The wide jaws (0.55”) with cross hatched grooves make grabbing and twisting wires easy. The hot-riveted pivot is extremely smooth with no perceptible side play. The ground facets on the outside of the jaws easily ream 1/2″ to 1” conduit – this is not a big deal but there seems to be a lack of consistency in the ground faceted surfaces ( see photo ).

Klein’s have been in my tool bag for over 30 years. They don’t wear out, rather I end up damaging them such as accidentally cutting an energized circuit. So, began my search for the replacement. I went with the 201 series lineman. No disappointment there. Klein fits like a glove with the standard 6 inch insulated handle.I have tried other sets of lineman pliers, however, none of them have a side cutter that cuts tight across the entire blade edge.I also appreciate Klein’s robust jaw pin. It never wobbles or wear out.Very pleased with this set.

Very good quality side cutting pliers. They are made with U.S. steel alloy. They have the look and feel of a quality tool. The cutting pliers work well with working gloves too. With 8 inch length, it makes cutting wires a breeze. You can’t go wrong with these. I have used Klein tools for quite sometime now and these are a great addition. For me, they do last and are durable.

This is a review of Klein Tool’s 8 inch Side Cutting Pliers, aka. Lineman’s Pliers. Called a lot of things, diagonal pliers, electrical pliers, they’ve been around since Tesla and Edison were duking it out over AC vs DC in the Great Electrification of America. Mine are decades old, and I decided it was time to upgrade, and Klein Tools is a serious upgrade. The pliers are forged steel, the cutting edges are induction hardened for durability and long life. The joint is hot-riveted to be smooth action with no wobble. The cushioned handle absorbs the “snap” that occurs when cutting wire. The last thing I like about them is the inside of the jaws are cross hatched instead of just being cut perpendicular to the tools length, which improves the pliers grip on wire ends when twisting them together. Over all it is a very serious tool.

We have not used the Klein brand before so new to us and these larger cutting pliers fit the bill with heavy duty grip which makes it easy to hold onto whatever item you are working and is not hard on the hands. It is well-weighted so the tool is not awkward. The cutting edge is very sharp and we had several items to cut through with it and it worked easily and it is obvious the forged steel is not junk as no nicks on it or indents that would indicate a cheap steel product. Very satisfied!!

The 8 in. Side Cutting Pliers from Klein Tools are a electricians basic tool. This design is a result of being time tested. These pliers are what my father called “linesman pliers”. These can be used not only for electrical work. But can also be used for just about any project that requires the use of pliers. The soft rubberized handles fit comfortably in your hands. And the cutting blades use something called “induction hardening” for long life. Don’t really know what that is. But being a tool from Klein Tools, I know that it can only improve this great tool.

I recently ordered and received the Klein 8 in. side cutting pliers, and as usual I am not disappointed. These pliers are as high a quality as I think you will see in the tool industry. The fit and finish are exceptional. The open and closing operation is silky smooth. The handles have a nice rubber comfort grip which is good in wet or dry conditions. There are many good tool choices on the market today and I firmly believe Klein quality to be at the top or very near the best you can buy, and they are made in the USA. In summary, if you need a pair of side cutting pliers that will get the job done and will potentially last a lifetime, you may want to consider Klein tools as an option for the next addition to you toolbox. OK, maybe I’m an idiot. I tripped the breaker for the room I was working in, but didn’t test the wire I was cutting. The wire was run off the next rooms breaker and now my side cutters have two holes burned in the jaws. Time for new pliers. These caught my eye for two reasons. First, they have a good quality look and feel, and they are made in the USA. Only time will tell how well they hold up, but you can bet my electrical tester will get a workout from now on.
