I selected this Klein side cutting N.E. pliers for the design; for the forged steel construction and the hand formed handle – this is very comfortable fit. The Klein’s don’t “give” like other sets of side cutters. For me, the Klein side cutting lineman pliers is a multi-tool. I use them for wiring tasks; cutting and twisting of wire ends, but also use them in demo projects such as nail pullers; the Klein’s just keep going with a sharp cutter edge and tight pin joint that never wears out.I also appreciate the dipped handles and the cross-hatched jaws in the construction. On the job, these are always in my back pocket.

The KLEIN TOOLS 8 IN. SIDE CUTTING PLIERS WITH NEW ENGLAND NOSE are a well-made pair of what’s also known as “lineman pliers.” They have a robust rubber grip, heavily etched gripping jaws and a fairly sharp set of cutting knives. They fit nicely in the hand, even when wearing heavy gloves. They are a little stiff at first, making them a little hard to open with one hand. However, after frequent use, I suspect they will loosen up. The cutter easily cuts through Romex and can handle up to 12-3 without much of a problem. The gripping jaws and large handles make it easy to grip objects.

The Klein Tools Lineman’s Pliers model # D201-8NE is a heavy duty, professional tool that is worthy of the Klein Tools name. The 8 1/2” long lineman’s pliers are forged from alloy steel and heat treated to temper the steel to give it added strength, durability, and performance. The broad nose jaws are cross hatched to give it extra holding power especially in twisting wires, holding, or bending metal. These pliers also have a built-in heavy-duty wire side cutter that is also heat treated for strength and durability in cutting wire. The pliers have a smooth movement, single solid rivet fulcrum point that allows for great mechanical advantage, leverage, and performance. The tool is precision made and the sign of good pair of pliers is when you can hold one handle and the simple force of gravity pulls the other handle to open the pliers and that is what happens with a quality tool like Klein pliers. Electricians especially will like this feature as it save valuable time and energy when using the pliers. These pliers come with a pair of 5” dark blue plastic cushion grips for added comfort when using them. Finally, it is nice to see that these pliers are made in the USA and are carefully crafted for durability and for many years of excellent performance!

Klein tools have always been synonymous with quality American made electricians tools and this set of lineman’s pliers did not disappoint. I chose these to use when replacing/updating outlets and switches in rooms I was doing makeovers on. I used these to cut copper wire as well as twist eire when multiple conductors needed to be twisted prior to installing wire nuts. These lineman pliers worked flawlessly. They opened and closed very freely yet without any play in the river connecting the two halves together. They provided ample torque for twisting wire and plenty of leverage to cut up to the 10 ga solid copper wire I was working with. I’m sure they could cut thicker wire but I did not test that. These pliers lived up to the Klein reputation and I’m glad to have them in my electricians pouch. Give them a try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

At 8 inches long and weighing just under a pound this is a hefty tool. The New England nose provides a rounded jaw versus the angular jaw of the regular nose. If you end up pulling a lot of nails and staples the additional force provided by the regular angular fulcrum edge could be an advantage. The rounded New England allows you to get into smaller openings than the regular nose. The jaw itself provides deep cross hatched grooves for sure grip and the hardened knives should keep their edge for a long time. The area behind the rivet does not provide for a gripping surface or crimping, although you can use it to hold and bend wire. The handles are plastic coated for a nice grip, but are not meant to provide electrical insulation. The tool easily cuts through single solid wire, but struggled with a 12-2 cable. A better tool for cutting cable would be an appropriate sized wire cutter. The gripping jaw does not completely close, yet are able to achieve a death grip for pulling nails and staples, or pushing wire or fish tape. The riveted joint eliminates all wobble for a perfect alignment. This longer lineman’s pliers will provide better cutting and grip than my shorter pliers. My only negative comment is the tool was very stiff to open and close. It improved slightly with some oil, and I am hoping it will smooth out with use. While targeted to the advance user, including instruction for the beginner on the various ways to use the tool would help out those willing to invest in a quality tool.

These 8 in. Side Cutting Pliers with New England Nose from Klein may be the last lineman pliers you will ever need to buy. They are exceptionally well made, and they are sturdy and comfortable to use. They are securely riveted, open and close easily, yet there is no play in the rivet. The cutters cut wire easily, and the cross hatched jaws work perfectly for twisting wires together. This tool is made from forged steel and the cutting jaws are induction hardened for long life. The handles are plastic dipped for comfort but not meant to be insulating, so do not use these on live circuits! Great pliers.

These new Klein 8 in. Side Cutting Pliers with New England Nose are nice. Ya just can’t beat Kleins for the jobs they’re intended to do. Ever since I began acquiring trade tools some 50+ years ago, I’ve been a fan of the various types of Klein Pliers. In fact, as a youngster, I was always fond of my Dad’s Kleins too. I carried and used a pair of Klein D213 Series 9 in. Side Cutting Pliers with the New England Nose for many years. I loved those “Kleins” or “linemans”. Somehow they disappeared from my tool cabinet when a relative (who also apparently loved them) was in the garage. I have another pair with the square nose, but for my purposes I’ve always preferred the New England Nose. These D201 Kleins are an inch shorter, but will serve me well for the kinds of things I’ll use them for around the house or shop. Since I’m older and don’t do the kind of work I used to, I think I like the 8 in. length better for most things. I would especially recommend these 8 in. Klein Pliers for anyone with smaller hands, for whom the 9 in pliers might feel a bit big. And, like all Kleins, they’re MADE IN USA. I say again, Ya just can’t beat Klein!
