I have used Klein tools for electrical and other work for over 50 years. Every tradesman I’ve worked with used them as well. We would often say and hear things like, “hand me the Kleins”. I still have and use some of my old Klein tools. I’ve been planning to replace a couple of them due to arc damage from careless use. (Sometimes got in too big a hurry and foolishly failed to make sure the circuit was “dead” before working). Upon examination of these new D213-9 pliers, I noticed that they do not close tightly, which was disappointing. The cutters are tight at the hinge end but taper a bit, and the jaws do not fit tightly. I looked at the product pages on the Klein website and discovered that the pictures show that even the old D2000-9NE pliers (which I already own) fit like this as well. My old ones fit well through the full length. I spoke with a very helpful young man (Larry) at Klein customer service to find out if this is the norm. After speaking with the Klein Product Engineering Department, he called back and told me that all their linesman’s style pliers except the Ironworker Series are purposely designed this way. He did not explain why. Unfortunately, this design feature does not appeal to me at all. I want to “cut” the wire. not “pinch” it off. When using these pliers with stranded wire there would assuredly be some strands left uncut, unless the cut is made all the way at the bottom of the cutter. Personally, I don’t want to fight with getting the wire all way down to the bottom to make a cut. Also, the gap in the jaws would make “twisting” small wires, or holding small, slim items, difficult, if not impossible. Sadly, these pliers will be relegated to the drawer of my tool chest with the other rarely used tools, NOT in my tool pouch, which is the first place I go for most work. I will look CLOSELY at their Diagonal Cutters, etc. before purchasing replacements for my old ones. I will, however, have to look at other brands for Linesman’s Style. Ironically, just a few weeks ago, I was explaining the virtues of choosing ONLY Klein tools for electrical work to my grandson. May have to change my recommendations.

These things are great! I needed a set of pliers for the occasional beefy task where my regular 7 inch pliers were not up to par. That’s where these 9 inch bad boys come in. Just picking them up you feel the heft and know you’re holding a quality pair of pliers. side cutters are nice for when you need to cut off a protruding screw. Faces are ribbed to help with holding power. But the leverage, that’s where these come in. The extra length on the handle lets me put both hands on at once whereas with a 7 inch set I get one hand and a few fingers on if I am really trying to get ahold of something. These give the extra area and longer leverage to really lock onto your workpiece.I’ve only used them a couple times, but these are solid and feel great in the hand. I would absolutely purchase these again.

5 years ago, I inherited my great uncle’s 60 year old pair of Klein Linemans pliers which he used as an industrial electrician for 40 years and I’ve used as a part time mechanic and full time tinkerer for the past 5 years. When I had an opportunity to get a brand new pair of their distant offspring, I jumped at the chance to compare them. What I found was that, in 60 years, virtually nothing has changed (see video below for the actual comparison). And that is a very very good thing. These pliers are perfectly aligned, operate smoothly right out of the package, have perfectly cut diamond / cross hatching for their teeth, and a cutting edge that is both strong and precise. They don’t make them like they used to? Klein does. You want the best Lineman’s pliers? In my opinon, and this is my opinion, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better pair. If they are out there, I’ll never know and do not care because these will deliver a lifetime of reliable service.

Side cutting pliers are one of most versatile tools in my tool box. They can cut relatively heavy duty items, wires, and virtually anything else. This unit has long handles, so the leverage that can be exerted multiplies their efficiency. They can also grip things if you do not squeeze too hard, so they are quite versatile. They can handle many of the jobs of regular pliers.

What Can You Say, It’s A Klein! These are Awesome Heavy Duty Pliers. Right Size & Quality Made Tool. They Have the power & leverage to cut wire easily. The Jaws are are deep & sharp making holding power & twisting easy to achieve. Not so bulky that they aren’t easy to maneuver in tight small spaces. Easy to keep clean, just wipe with a rag & they clean up. Best Pliers money can buy.
