The Klein step drill bit #1 will drill 13 different sized holes. It will cover the following sizes, 1/8″, 5/32″, 3/16″, 7/32″, 1/4″, 9/32″, 5/16″, 11/32″, 3/8″, 13/32″, 7/16″, 15/32″ and 1/2″. The metric range is 3.2-13.1. It has a 3/8″ hexagon shank so will fit practically any drill/chuck and not spin inside the chuck. This is also a money and te saver if you are drilling lots of holes. There is only 1 bit to buy and you also save time by not having to swap to larger sized bits. This bit leaves a hole that is very smoothe thanks to the two flutes that cut the material. The bit is nice and smoothe in the metal, not jerky and unpredictable.Another thing I like about this bit, is the different sizes are labeled on the flute cut out so you dont have to memorize the 7th slot is 5/16″ or the 10th is 13/32″. The tip is very sharp and does not walk around which is nice. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

If you’ve ever wanted an entire drill kit in a single bit, this is a great tool. While it doesn’t have unlimited step depth, the increments are at good intervals (from 1/8th inch to 1/2 inch) so the versatility is very good. For thinner materials, like electrical panels, hobby-boxes, veneers, sheet plastics and more, this drill really works well. The fluting clears easily, making the debris well controlled.I was quite happy to have this bit available while working on my last guitar effects project.

Whether I’m working with wood or metal, there comes a time when the hole I need drilled is in between two sizes, and just don’t have the proper bit, or you need to make a hole, previously drilled, just a little larger. This Klein double fluted step drill bit is the perfect tool. You can put this in your drill or drill press, and lower it until you touch the poject piece and then drill one size larger. This will get plenty of use in my shop.

Just had the opportunity to use the Klein KTSB01 step drill bit. It preformed well in the materials I had to drill, aluminium and steel. The bit did not walk and the markings on the bit make it easy to control the size of the hole. It did leave a bit of a rough lip on the back side of all the materials I used it on, if you can get to that side it is easy to clean with a light touch of the bit. So far I have drilled around 45 holes without any noticeable difference in performance. My only problem is that after looking at the package the item is made in China not the United States and it makes me question the overall quality of the product from a manufacturer that always promotes that their products are made in the United States.

I love this drill bit, okay? I look for ways to use it.My tool box includes a bunch of different hole cutters, none without drawbacks. But after the KLEIN TOOLS 1/8 IN. TO 1/2 IN. HIGH SPEED STEEL DOUBLE-FLUTED STEP DRILL BIT bit arrived in the mail, I became very happy, The KLEIN drill bit is uber versatile! It cuts perfect holes and cuts perfect pilot holes. The bit is great for sheet steel, too!I already have a set of step drills, but compared to the KLEIN, they seem clunky and not as sharp and not as clean. Besides the KLEIN bits have hex shafts to keep them securely in your chuck and the depths are clearly marked on both side.

Step drill works great for making or enlarging a hole in an electrical panel or box.Eliminates carrying a bunch of loose drill bits for those couple of holes needed at a job.Overall length is 3 7/16″ with a 5/16″ hex drive. Locks in well to my 3/8″ cordless drill. The steps are 5/32″ tall – good for < 1/8" thick panel or box.The double flutes don't bind up or stick in aluminum or steel. Just use light pressure and let it cut. Don't force it or you will end up counter boring the hole with the next size.Common hole sizes 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" are easy to see on the bit (13 steps from 1/8" to 1/2" in 1/32"). Minimum hole is 1/8" for this #1 bit.

Klein makes some good tools and this is one of them. The step drill bit is sharp and cuts through about anything. This one has the right sizes for electrical work. Klein tools needs to make a case for the different size step bits. This bit is nice any easy to chuck up in a reg drill or a 1/4” quick chuck. There is room between each size when drilling.

I have owned several sets of step drills over the years, from the original Unibit to several cheap generic ones, but these are far and away my favorite. They are very well-made (definitely not surprising, since they are made by Klein), but they have a couple of features that really set them apart. In the past, it has always been a challenge to remember which step I want to finish on, but they have solved that by putting a dark oxide finish on all the steps except for every 4th step on the small one, and 4th and 2nd steps on the larger. That is SO much better than putting sharpie marks on the step I want to use, or putting tape on the level above where I should finish. They also have 3/8” hex shanks, so there is no danger of the bit slipping in the chuck. As you can see from the picture below, I put the larger one in my lathe and drilled out a ¾” hole in a 1/2” thick piece of square stock. That is definitely not how they are typically used, but it handled it perfectly, and the edges are still as sharp as when I started.

This is my new favorite bit! It eats through aluminum and thin metals and handles all other projects with ease. I love drilling with it and can see that it will last me a long time! I work a lot with wood and thin metal sheeting and it is so nice to only have to carry this one bit with me. I have only seen a small amount of wear after a month of solid use and the laser inscribed measurements are all unaffected. Make sure you have a 3/8” chuck or larger and you will love this bit!
