The Magnetic Torpedo Level with Laser by Klein Tools is a fantastic tool to own. It is solid, and well made. The vials are bright and accurate, and the magnets in the bottom are super strong. They attach it to the leveling base for precise leveling with the 2 thumbscrews. The laser beam is bright and very visible, and the center dot is really handy. A versatile tool that works quite well!

The laser portion of this is quite impressive. You’re not going to get a room level layout with it but I got several feet each way at the corner of the wall in my living room. That should be plenty for many applications. The level itself is cast, and the battery shoot has a little too much resistance, making battery removal a bit dicey. I mean, you don’t want to bang on a laser level to get the batteries out. I’ll probably wire brush it clear eventually. Other than the battery debacle, this thing delivers and then some. I am very happy and even surprised with how nice this thing is. Another winner from Klein tools- I have about six others in my arsenal already.

Issues from the start, and not up to normal Klein standards. Model LBL100 (Made in China) comes in virtually impenetrable plastic packaging, requiring knives, scissors, and/or power cutters to open, and doing so is likely to slash the multi-lingual instruction sheet. It comes with three generic AAA batteries to power the LASER which slide into a tubular compartment capped by a push-button switch. I encountered slight resistance pushing them into the battery “tube” and subsequently can’t get all of them out. The third is still stuck in place, despite repeated banging on a table to loosen the it. I’m not sure how to remove it without damage or ruining the calibration of the levels. The problem isn’t the batteries themselves – my name-brand AAA batteries stick as well. The LASER is bright, projecting both a dot and a horizontal line (assuming the level is placed on a plumb, flat surface) but the power switch on my unit is erratic – sometimes it won’t latch “ON” but merely lights while the button is pushed. Hopefully that’s a problem with just this unit and not a generic defect. The unit is solid, with strong magnets and an innovative plate accessory that enables precise leveling on uneven surfaces. Just snap the base to the magnets, and adjust the two thumb screws to center the horizontal and cross bubbles. The black-on-orange markings are crisp and easy to ready, including the battery icons to show how to insert the batteries and the marking showing that the LASER beam is offset from the base by 1/2”. The base of the unit also includes a threaded hole for mounting on a standard tripod (1/4×20 thread). I have other LASER-projection devices but this has the brightest beam and the advantage of the leveling plate and dual-usage as a torpedo level. Unfortunately, the problems with the battery compartment and the switch make it impossible for me to recommend this device.

LOVE this level. Its nice and compact and very versatile! I love the leveling base which allows you to use it almost anywhere and do just about anything you need. You can see in the pics that its mostly designed for leveling on the horizontal axis and not vertically. I haven’t figured out how to rotate the line 90 degree (up and down) and then adjust it but not to worry in my mind. It works great for many different uses and again, love it!!

Excellent level with strong neodymium magnets and the laser is super bright and accurate. The only thing I would recommend to Klein is that they add magnets to the top groove. When I build pipe racks it would be very beneficial to be able to keep a accurate straight line with the end of the EMT and project the laser to the wall you’re about to penetrate. Ideal makes a bullet level 35-207 that has this but with out the laser. I have not used the lasers leveler as of yet but it’s great the have the option. Also the leveler is attached with a 1/4-20 screw so you can hang the level from 1/4-20 rod to check your elevation and path.

Go tthis new torpedo laser level a week ago and haven’t stopped using it. It is very sturdy and the magnets are so strong. The laser beam is right on and very visible making it perfect for alligning power lines and conduit. It saves me a lot of time by not having to mark lines. The vials too are very bright and visible. I really like this tool. Well done, Klein

Precise laser control inspires confidence and the bubbles confirm proper alignment. In use the bright laser is very easy to see over long distances inside and it is perfectly visible outside over shorter distances. The plate and two knurled thumb screws provide a simple yet very precise method of aligning the laser with the target. The discreet battery compartment holds three AAA batteries although I did find the restricted finger turning access to the threaded switch cover could possibly lead to cross threading. This solid, heavy even, metal level sits solidly and will not easily waver. The strong magnets virtually lock it to metal surfaces. The bright orange finish makes it easy to see. A packet or compact box to keep the kit together would’ve been icing on the cake.
