I do a lot Category 5 and 6 and use this tool to punch down on the keystones and patch panel and it works great. Love that it has the pick to take out wires that got punch down incorrectly. The grip is also nice on the palm. Great quality and built.

you need a punchdown tool for cat5e or cat6 receptacles… this one is good. The job is a little delicate but tool works reliably…

Another Klein well built quality tool. For starters, after opening the packaging, I immediately noticed the thick rubber handle which fit well in my hands and provided a really good grip for the tool. I have big hands and it fit my hand well. There is a built-in small flat headed screwdriver and a hook for removing wires that don’t set or need to be removed from a panel, such as a cross connect panel. These are recessed into the unit itself but come with large tabs which made it easy to pull them out. This tool has a low pressure and a high pressure impact setting. During my test with it, I only used the low impact setting. There was no need for me to switch to the higher setting, which is very easily done by just turning the setting wheel on the back of the tool. Also on the back of the tool is a locking mechanism that locks the punch head in. There is a secondary head that can be swapped out, however during my test I was unable to pull the head out to reverse it. I was able to unlock it, but not able to get it out. I’m not sure if I was doing something wrong or not, but I did refer to the directions with no success. This is the reason for my 4/5 Quality rating. This is my only negative on this handy little tool. This fantastic tool is able to terminate and cut low voltage wires at the same time to make easy installation of cross connect panels, blocks, and keystone jacks. I made several cat-6 connections today with ease. All the connections were successful on the first try. I have big hands. The tool is light, yet feels sturdy in my hand. It did not require any additional force being applied to the tool to complete the wire installation successfully. I would definitely recommend this tool for anyone doing low voltage terminations.

This isn’t the first punch down tool used. It’s also not the first Klein branded tool owned. The brand seems good overall. The first thing noticed is the rubberized handle that provides more comfort and better grip especially if heavily used. Some brands do not have as comfortable a handle so I found that a plus. The “bit” removes easily with a counter clockwise quarter twist and lifts out consistent with other brands. It has two built-in tools in the handle a “hook” and “spudger.” That’s a nice feature that a previously owned brand didn’t have. The overall design of the tool is very similar to other brands. It has the ability to store the blade/tip in the butt of the handle. Another brand provides two blade/tips that are reversible so 4 edges. This Klein tool comes with one blade on one end. Also noted blade covers were provided on the other brand and could easily be inserted into the base by simply pushing in. The Klein instructions do indicate the blade when inserted into the handle “will extend beyond the tool. It does not in this case. It goes into the handle completely and cannot be pushed to be locked into place. The tool has to be upside down, insert the blade the turn the “blade release dial” and it will fall into place securely. Also there is not a blade tip cover provided. Maybe that would just get lost but it seems like a useful thing to have in my opinion. Since my use case is occasional and comparing to features of other brands I’m not sure the Klein at more than double the price is of value. It was disappointing that it didn’t have a second blade. It does have a more comfortable handle but with light use that may not be a major feature to some. It does have the added tools to the side. Other than that the design and basic features are that of other brands. It does seem like a very durable and solid tool.

At first I hesitated because of the price but I know Klein is on top of the zenith with their line of products. Turned out to be an awesome tool as is my array of Klien tools I have. My co worker asked to borrow it, and decided to go purchase one of his own. And I also like the warranty part of it.Thank You R. Stro

Whether you need to punchdown old telco, alarm system, or Ethernet this is the tool to do it with. Prior to this my punchdown had no spring action, no comfort grip and a non replaceable blade. I needed to replace it and this turns out to be the perfect choice. The tool measures just under 7 inches with blade attached, 1-1/2 inches at its widest and 1 inch thick, add the molded on grip and you have a comfortable to hold tool that won’t slip out of your hands. It includes a switchable 66/110 blade that can be removed with just a quarter turn. The tool will accept blades from most other makers. The handle also serves to securely store the blade when not in use. To release the blade from storage you turn the bottom wheel to the left. The wheel above that controls whether impact will be low or hi. To make sure you always know where the cutting side of the blade is Klein prints the word CUT and colored that side of the handle yellow, while on the other side is a burgundy to let you know that is not the cutting side. Just when you think what else can this tool do, you’ll find a hook and spudger located on one side of the handle. The metal spudger is used for poking, cutting or adjusting small wire or components, while the metal hook can be used to feed or remove wire. Both have 180 degree of range and are easily accessible with built in pull tabs. The spring loaded action makes for fast and low effort terminations and provides feedback of a completed punchdown. The is a welcomed addition to my Ethernet tool kit. Just make sure that once you get past the blister pack you don’t forget to remove the product card as the instruction are inside its fold.

As a IT Professional I highly recommend the Klein Impact Punch Down Tool. I use it for punching down Cat3, Cat5e and Cat6 cables into punch down panels and blocks. The handle has a nice comfort grip handle. It has a two setting dial for low and high impact punch downs. Blades quickly interchange with a simple twist and release motion. The butt end allows for additional blade storage. Replacement Blades are available #VDV427-104 and an extended blade # VDV427-110 which is good when punching down on panels.

This Klein Tools Impact Punch Down Tool supports 66 block and 110 block connections for cutting only. The single reversible blade provided is 66 cut on one side and 110 cut on the other. Every other punch down tool I own comes with two blades. One is 66 with cut on one side and non-cut on the other and the second one is 110 with cut on one side and non-cut on the other. While this product does not claim to have non-cut, it is disappointing they chose to sell this configuration as non-cut is useful in a variety of situations. The handle of the punch down tool has a coating that provides comfort and a non-slip grip. I like the very large lettering identifying the cut side of the tool. The blade is also clearly marked to indicate the cut side. Both of these will help reduce cutting mistakes. Just like most competitor products, this punch tool has a high/low impact dial and a storage compartment on the bottom for a second blade (not included). This is the first blade I have encountered that uses a metal injection molding process. The manufacturer claims this will increase durability. I found the cut action with the 110 blade was similar to other punch down tools from different manufacturers. One added bonus on this tool is the inclusion of a spudger and a pick that can slide out from the side of the handle to help manage wires. They are designed with friction to stay in place when you pull them out which is a nice feature.

This tool was the right one to buy. Substantial weight and grip made easy workof making the connections. Tool made in the U.S. which is a big plus in my book. Youcould go cheaper but it always comes down to “getting what you pay for” Definitely would recommend this.

The Klein Tools Impact Punch Down Tool, 66/110 Blade, works great. I use punch-down blocks a lot in my hobby with train layouts. The layouts use low voltage wire and I’ve been using solid (non-stranded) phone wire to operate my many layout lights. This tool provides quick and clean connections, and cuts off the excess wire while seating the wire in the punch-down block. A very nice feature is a built-in tool that looks like a hook to remove the wire, should you make a mistake. It has a selectable impact-force setting in case your wire is tougher to cut. There’s a built-in storage area in the handle to store replacement blades (extras not included). To remove the installed blade, twist it and pull to remove. The extra blade snaps inside the handle and has a blade release dial to remove the blade from the storage area. This tool also works on CAT3/CAT5A and CAT6/CAT6A wire. Unlike the older punch-down tools, this is spring-loaded so you merely push it into the block connector until the spring snaps, properly seating the wire and cutting off the excess. No more banging on the end of the punch-down tool with the heel of your hand every time you want to seat a wire. I’ve used a lot of Klein Tools and this meets up with the quality I’m used to from Klein. I recommend this tool. Made in China.

The Klein Tools impact punch down tool is great improvement over traditional punch down tools. It offers an easy way to precisely replicate punch down force when wiring 110/66 blocks. In addition to being a superior punch down tool, Klein built in extras that make this tool extra versatile. There is a pick and spludger built in the side which fold out. The bottom of the tool holds a spare 110/66 punch down blade (not included) for when yours breaks, or you need a longer one. To make sure you are orienting the tool correctly, Klein made the front of the tool yellow and the rear of the tool red for easy identification. This has quickly become my go to punch down tool.
