I am satisfied with this purchase. However, using its software online wasn’t successful with my laptop. Manually transferring files from my laptop’s local drive to the hard drive works just fine.

As far as external drives go, this is the best one I’ve had. It’s reliable, feels durable, and connects via USB-C. After two bad experiences with Western Digital drives, I’m staying with Seagate/LaCie. Both this drive and my 500GB Seagate external HDD are my daily drivers, and I’ve yet to experience any data reading/writing problems. There’s just one quirk with this drive. When I connect to my MacBook using the USB Type-C-to-Type-C cable, the drive will start to disconnect itself at semi-regular intervals after a few minutes. This only happens on my Mac; my PC laptop is immune to this problem. I reached out to LaCie, and they recommended trying a different cable. When I connect with the USB Type-A-to-Type-C cable, the problem goes away. I assume it’s either just the cable or my computer, but I figured I might as well throw that experience out there. Overall, all I have to say is: Don’t regret buying cheap crap. Just get a LaCie Rugged drive and you won’t have to worry about losing anything.

Don’t purchase this. It stopped working within 3 months of purchasing it. I’m really surprised, because I’ve used LaCie for many years not and this is not the quality I’m use to. Very disappointed.

LaCie drives are excellent, and priced right.

Unfortunately, I gave this drive too much rope with which to hang itself and I should have returned it sooner. For me, it has proven to be unusable. I’m on a Windows 10 machine with fully updated drivers for Thunderbolt, USB, and the LaCie drive itself. I’ve tried both cables included, as well as all the different ports on my computer and hub. But nothing can get rid of the lag time. When I’m trying to edit photos and videos, the drive just hangs and hangs and hangs and has slowed my productivity rate down more than 50%. This drive has proven itself to be a total waste of time and money. I’m looking into brands other than LaCie as I do still need an external drive. If this next one acts the same, I’ll return it right away!

ALL my images strait from the SD/CF cards get dumped strait to one of these drive for a backup. I use a second similar drive for my sessions and catalogs edits

Drive is not always recognized. So do you pull the cable and start over? When it’s up and running it seems to work fine. Do not have full confidence in this Type C plug and am stepping back to earlier USB models.

On the road with camera and gear editing photos on the go… This is the perfect accompaniment to run Lightroom and carry my full LR catalogue without filling the hard drive of my computer!

I bought this drive 6 months ago, and have been using it on a daily basis without issues. I use it for traveling, and I am very happy with it.

I haven’t dropped it yet nor had the goons at TSA dent it repacking my luggage after xray, but from the feel, I think I will have better luck not destroying my data. Speed is as good as you can get with a spinning drive, not nearly as fast as an SSD, but hoping in the long run for data I am better off as I have had my backup SSDs fail after too many read/write cycles.

LaCie offers a durable option for the traveling professional. This drive compliments my portable SSD’s perfectly to back up all of my video and still photo files. A generous 5TB of space and USB Type-C connectivity decrease my back-up time freeing me up to stay in the field.

These USB-C are HORRIBLE. They all eject. I’ll be sitting still, no movement and they eject. I am so frustrated after EVERY single one of these that I own have been damaged, not my user error. I taped the last one I used for my project and it helped. I didn’t tape this one and I’m sitting here now and my project is damaged after the first time it ejected randomly. I’m so annoyed and won’t buy these ever again.

I love LaCie hard drives and SSD’s. This 5TB hard drive is as solid as a rock. I have gotten rid of all of my other drives and ONLY use the LaCie Rugged drives now. I use Adobe Premiere Pro on my Mac Pro (late 2013) computer and my LaCie rugged drives are a perfect fit. LaCie uses Seagate drives which has been a very dependable drive for me for many years. Seagate has been around since 1979.

The LaCie Rugged hard drives are very reliable and tough. This is my sixth one. Over many years I’ve never had one fail. They are useful for data backups which don’t require fast transfer speeds. If you need a faster drive, ‘consider the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro models.
