With a capacity of 5TB, the Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive from LaCie marries a USB 3.0 Type-C interface and data transfer speeds of up to 130 MB/s with rugged durability that provides a drop resistance of up to 4′, crush resistance of up to 1 ton, and rain resistance, making this drive suitable for all-terrain storage, whether you’re in the field or in your home. It can be used to store large Lightroom libraries, as a shuttle drive to transport footage from a set to a post-production house, or just for general tasks.
LaCie’s 5TB Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive is compatible with Windows 7 and later and macOS 10.12 and later, but should also work on earlier versions of macOS, such as 10.9 and 10.11. It is powered using the USB bus, meaning that no external power adapters are required for use. Included is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C cable, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C to Type-A cable, and two years of Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Services. General protection is provided by a limited 2-year warranty.

This is my go to hard drive. Only issue I’ve had is that the cable doesn’t fit securely to my laptop and sometimes ejects if the cable moves too much. This isn’t a problem if I’m working at a desk but if I’m working from my laptop on the go, the cable disconnecting could potentially cause problems. It may be an issue with my laptop though.

I am currently using two other LaCie Rugged hard drives that are over 10 years old. The latest LaCie I purchased for larger storage was a LaCie 4TB Rugged USB Type C External Hard Drive. My past and present experiences with LaCie hard drives are that they are fast, reliable and durable and give you peace of mind that they are not so fragile and susceptible to damage, like competitive drives. For quality and value, I highly recommend the LaCie family of external hard drives.

I bought this hd for my new Apple MacBook Pro to keep my photos on. Compact and looks to be heavy duty. I don’t plan on dropping it, but it looks like it can handle a little abuse. Nice small package.

I haven’t dropped it yet nor had the goons at TSA dent it repacking my luggage after xray, but from the feel, I think I will have better luck not destroying my data. Speed is as good as you can get with a spinning drive, not nearly as fast as an SSD, but hoping in the long run for data I am better off as I have had my backup SSDs fail after too many read/write cycles.
